As usual, I expect the statistics are correct and the argument they support entirely wrong. Wingers aren't there just to provide crosses, they're used to spread play out into spaces on the wings, and at our level they're vital. The alternative is to play everything by short passes through a crowded midfield, and this lot couldn't play short, quick passes if they had the midfield to themselves. Either they have the option of going wide, or they lose it is about where we are. The option of a get-out-of-jail ball to the wings has to be available.
Once it's out in the relatively large spaces on the wings at least we can go forward. Doesn't happen when we try passing through the middle. Get in the opponents back third and then worry about the crosses.
