Agree apart from Gerrard unless he's been on slimfast.

Ok. So Gerrard has a gut on him, but when Gerrard was playing against Sheff utd in that first half the defence was pulled together. He is exactly what our team needs which is a loud mouth because watching him and seeing how much he organises the players around him makes a massive difference to how we play.
Everybody can criticise his Homer Simpson bay window belly as much as they want but he is going to be pivotal to our season cos he just doesn't shut up.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

He just doesn’t shut up.

I like players with attitude and nastiness.

Ok but there's no excuse for a pro footballer having a gut on him. He's a professional athlete and needs to work on his physique. He's not an old man. He's lazy.

I’ve only seen photos of gerrard so far so I know how out of shape he looks (inexcusable) I haven’t seen him play yet soo will reserve judgement on how useful or pivotal he is.
Yesterday I kept getting told he would have won this, that and the other. I have no doubt he is decent in the air but he still needs to get there to win things and he doesn’t look in the right shape to play 90 competitive minutes.
I’m not keen on judging people based purely on friendlies.

McKay wasn't great but he won a fair few headers (although only about 40% of what he went for). Looks no worse than Chris O'Gravy, although that's no ringing endorsement. I'm sure he'll not be near the first team once injuries sort themselves out.

First and foremost, I completely agree today’s performance was garbage. First half diabolical and second half better but two very poor goals conceded.
But, we know Sheridan is working with scraps budget-wise so how much of a blow is it to be without Hollis, Gerrard, Spyrou, Maguire?
His fully fit squad is lacking as it stands, particularly with width, but it surely must be tough losing four players that would most likely have started today.

He’s working with scraps because he’s wasted his budget on a lopsided squad

I think the injuries have to be considered, there's no way without a huge budget you can have a decent promotion chasing first team with depth outside of it.
I think Hollis, Gerard and Spyrou would have started. Yarney would have been full back and Smith in midfield. We've also lost Denton who would have been on the bench. I doubt we would have conceded the goals we did had they played but our lack of width and creativity would still be evident. Presumably the players that were sick as opposed to being injured may be available Tuesday.
Yes it was a poor do and you make fair points E, my worry is we are light weights in midfield - how do you control a game without controlling midfield.
God I hate this league.

On Tuesday I would start with Wedgebury in the centre, he's a tough tackler, reads and uses the ball well. I would also like to see Rawson given the Rowley role, he'd push forward and would be looking at goal rather than play the ball square or back. Sharman at rightback, if Hollis is unfit Yarney/ Loz will have to play alongside Evans. -- Smith, Wedge, Manderville, Rawson...Boden, Mckay.(another chance).

I wouldn’t disagree that Wedgbury might be worth a shout given the dearth of resources but where on earth have you got all this confidence in his abilities.

Some of your other shouts are frankly, bizarre

Wedgebury in for one of Weir or Weston, surely. By virtue of 'he can't be as bad as those two'. You'd hope.

Having had the weekend to think about the game I'm prepared to wait and see what happens over the next two months, we have lost the first home game before and ended up as champions, 69/70 springs to mind. The most frustrating point I felt about the game was that we never won a second ball in midfield, Dover picked up all of the loose balls. Sheridan said he wants the team to take care of the ball but on Saturday they treated it more like a hot potato and at times thought they were almost afraid of playing at home, will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night. Second half was better, Weston made a couple of good runs, after doing naff all in the first half. Weir I'm convinced is colour blind and is incapable of passing to a team-mate in the same shirt. Mandeville showed some touches and will hopefully develop more as the season progresses. Rowley, don't know what has gone wrong there, seems to be a lack of confidence and has forgotten how to run at defences with the ball. Defence, not the first choice line-up so difficult to assess what to expect in the future. Boden did okay without any service and up front with a bit more composure we should have had one or two more goals. Before the game I was disappointed with the line-up and expressed my fears, which were unfortunately realised and will wait to see how it develops however I'm really glad I don't have a season ticket.
