Laid much of the groundwork that condemned us to non league football. To this day, I believe he had no idea what was doing. Can someone remind me, was it three wins in thirty or something like that? Good luck Exeter. You're going to need it.

Only ever beat Port Vale (twice) and Swindon in his time here. His signings condemned us to where we are today.

Beware Exeter you were warned

Exeter fans seem to be holding out to Caldwell being onto a loser here before he'd started and we were a basket case already heading for oblivion!

Then they will learn the hard way!

If they drop down to this league, they will never come back IMO. It’s a different league now to when they last came up.

Well, we were but probably not as they envisage. Look who we had as managers, Saunders (no shortage of funds), Danny Wilson (starved of funds) then the great man himself, Caldwell (no shortage of funds) now at least two of those were basket case appointments

Let’s face it, when Caldwell came here, we were warned by Wigan fans and most of us decided to give him a chance.

If the comments on Twitter don't set alarm bells ringing then they can't say they haven't been warned.

Videos doing the rounds on twitter. The goalie allegedly chinning a woman isn't a good look.

That is a bad omen.

Apparently he said in his interview, ‘we have to be good off the pitch’

It wasn’t just his signings. The way he set the team to play took no account of the opposition, of their strengths and weakness, it also of your strength and weakness. He just expected other teams to simply lie back and let you play football.

There's an element of truth in that but it doesn't excuse his excrable performance.

2 of my worst ever performances I’ve seen watching the boys in blue was the home 0-1 loss to 10 man Oldham when Gerrard was sent off just before half time for slapping Evatt. We were absolutely clueless that second half and Oldham scored a last gasp winner. That started the slump.

Add in the 1-2 home loss to Bury a week later, who were arguably worse than Oldham’s 10 men but still had enough to beat us.

Wasn’t these the games where El-Fitouri started and we never saw him again?

At least he's forced to work with what he's got until January before he forks it up royally and sells their best players and brings in dross...just as a matter of interest who is their best player atm....I notice they've got a former loanee we had in 2011 on their books....Jonathan Grounds

The slump started inverted in the summer of 2014 when Allen started to cut costs instead of managing costs. Cook, Saunders, Wilson, Caldwell, Lester, Allen, Sheridan (ish) were a catalyst of poor upper management business decisions. Countless CEO's and hangers on in that time.

Just remember when you think about Caldwell, is that he didn't appoint himself. He was a poor appointment at a desperate time.

I was with one of his previous coaching staff members at his first match & came to talk & asked my mate advise since they’d worked together…he said, just don’t change a thing for 5 games & let the players prove themselves.
Next game, changed formation half the team, then again & again……the man thinks he’s right at everything & wont listen….apart from his Wigan spell (when they got promoted), he’s done exactly the same & wants coaches around him that won’t challenge him

Exeter be warned!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he widen the pitch to its maximum size and then never bought or played a winger.

All opposing teams need to do now is close down the defenders when the Exeter keeper has the ball. Gormless Gary seems to insist said defenders get passed the ball no matter how many opponents are already right next to them.
These go to eleven.

He’s a manager plays a certain way, trying to play football………………but forgets things like the opposition will press defenders, close down space and try to tackle your players and win the ball back.
A new hope.
