Back When We Were A Real Football Club

Perhaps it's age but given the state of the club and the absolute drain it has been these past seasons post-Cook, I've considered giving up on modern football and just treating the years when I enjoyed it as some treasure trove of memories.

The other thing with what you have just said is its all modern day footballers in general, look at West Brom, Stoke or Swansea all the teams are saying their transfer signing have not been good enough and haven't tried and certain players haven't put a shift in on the pitch but when they are page stupid amounts of money for being average players they don't need to.
Football is dying now as we used to know it.

Yes, I agree. Something has to give somewhere along the line. The TV deals and wages can't continue to get bigger forever whilst the product stagnates. Football is eating itself.

Many moons ago a bloke I used to work with was saying he had stopped going to watch Man Utd and football in general for exactly those reasons.
He cited the transfer of John Barnes from Watford to Liverpool and his supposed £10k a week salary as unsustainable, overpaid hype etc.

Well, yes, understood but the cycle can't continue upwards forever. There is only so much money in the world.
The Premier League has marketed itself well over the years but, Leicester aside, it has become less interesting and the big clubs will only try to grab a bigger piece of the pie as they do in Spain. Less competitiveness, less interest from abroad, and hopefully a dose of financial reality. Hopefully Arab states will lose interest in buying clubs, too.

i used to love that walk up the saltergate steps too, there was something about that. agree with much being said on this post. I still turn on to watch motd on a sat/sun night but find myself not really watching the games and the endless drivel of anal-ysis by ex-pros is so annoying. losing interest so fast i'm considering taking up playing again.

Too much money in the game, not long before the franchising starts like in Basketball in the USA, I can see traditional clubs relocating to areas of the UK without sides such as Wakefield, Poole and Dudley.
Sadly I can see fans leaving the game, but not before the powers that be squeeze every last bit of money out.
