If it were me I'd get the shortlisted candidates to take a training session with the players. Get the players feedback. Then hear what they have to say during interview.
Does this happen?
Does this happen?
Not a fan of the "one session" to decide anything. Seen it done when people try to get coaching badges and not jobs; where the session is planned by somebody else for them and they are exposed when they don't understand what is on paper, let alone what is happening on the grass.
Players like people who will blow smoke up their ass and indulge them, that's not what CFC needs right now. Players want managers who will play them, so what objective feedback would you get from a player when a manager plays in a particular style that doesn't include him?
Plus, where would that leave Evo as a candidate? He's stomped his feet a bit earlier this week in an interview with Graham about lack of experience shouldn't rule him out. My problem with that is he sounds just like that idiot Guy Branston; the sub-text was I've played football for a long time but have no experience and I want everyone to look beyond that. He can talk all about "I know the club" or "I know the players" but it's just a little bombast to try and give himself a leg up.
His session has the potential for disaster - he's no coaching experience, let alone management experience at any level, so to me, he's not a realistic candidate. I respect everything he's done for the club as a player, but pragmatism and romance are not good bedfellows in appointing the next manager. He says that his transition from player to caretaker manager has confirmed he's cut out for it...I admire the optimism, but there's an underlying naivety in what he says.
But equally, I can see one of the 2 "trusted former players" being Tommy Lee and him endorsing Evo.
This is why I'm so interested in how this will proceed.
