Apparently this Donald is only worth around eight million - and I say 'only' in terms of how much is needed to fund even a fourth tier club these days. However he's supposedly part of a consortium including a huge Spanish company and an American bank. Problem is Sunderland still have Premier League levels of costs which means there'll be little or no return on any investment for the foreseeable future.
In other words unless there's an immediate turnaround the two large backers could withdraw leaving Donald to pick up bills he simply can't afford.
Another thing, too. Even though Ellis Short has written off the debt owed to him he's allegedly refused to meet two other legitimate bidders and has been accused of pressing ahead with the Donald deal with inordinate haste.
Perhaps Sunderland fans who know some of our pain shouldn't be celebrating just yet...
Never underestimate the stupidity of people
