Not too late to get 2k more on the gate to see Jack if Wrong Kit announces his departure this afto. Alternatively, Carson could make a cameo appearance wearing his famous kit. Or both, then Jack could kick him in the bollux.

It might have helped if the club shop or ticket office was open today. It is shut till 5

Can see the walk ups being large definitely, and the queues causing a delay to kick off..

I just bought mine online to collect but I know a lot of people heading down about 6-30 to get a ticket so queues may be quite big.

The kids are off school though, so staying up by up 45 mins shouldn't be a problem.

It could have been a condition of Wigan agreeing to come but you would have thought Cookie would have wanted to maximise income for Tommy.

I'm informed by a member of the testimonial committee that Wigan wanted the 7pm KO

Not sure the kickoff time has any impact on attendence

More likely the malaise hanging over the club, seriously bad timing for a testimonial

I really don’t get that mentality. Anyone who claims to be a fan of the club, who has enjoyed any of the last ten years, and has any idea about football must appreciate the importance of Tommy Lee and what he has given to us. On that basis and knowing that there is a charitable side to this I just don’t get why people wouldn’t come down and show their appreciation for a top keeper.

The logic of 7pm being awkward ? - its definitely a lot less favourable than say 19:45 / 20:00 which would be the normal time for an evening kick off.

..... I suppose it saves money keeping the floodlights off.

Correct. I appreciate that in this case we had to go with what Wigan wanted, but for people who work somewhere other than Chesterfield, getting there for a 7pm kick-off is much more difficult.

It’s an odd situation.

Given Tommy’s popularity, I’d have though he would get 5000 easy, kickoff time, holidays, whatever.

Is 8/13 that there will be more than 2 goals in the testimonial almost giving you money?

I agree and was amazed to hear only 2000 would be tbere tonight.however, and this is my take on it.when the freindly fixtures were released we as a family made a decision to go to the away games only.that meant dropping a home fixture, tommy lee or not.we went to sheffield fc and may go to matlock next week so as far wer'e concerned money is spent.i don't want the extra home game at the proact with added money.plus we go away in a fortnight, thus more reason to save.i'm sure its the same for others.losing week in week out at the proact is still very fresh in the memories of some and until our season ticket drags us there i'd rather stay away

I've never understood testimonials tbh. Footballers are extremely well paid for what they do and the life they are able to lead from it is quite enviable. It's certainly a peculiarity (to me) that they are then further rewarded because they happen to work in the same place for ten years or so. I'd rather give you the cost of the ticket for actually doing a job that has real purpose, like saving lives.

Nothing against Tommy BTW; great 'keeper and decent person. And, if it's all going to charity, fair enough.
