There'll be so many new players that they'll have to go to Portugal for a week, to gel.

Then another 2 weeks or so playing friendlies to understand the new formation lol

Caldwell doesn't appear to have the fans on his side. The players seem unwilling or unable to play his tactics. I am not in the gang of not a penny more but I honestly cannot justify a financial lay out of 30/40 quid when I have no faith in the management to turn it round from anything but a loss. I think the club won't finish in the bottom two but if things don't change very soon it's a possibility. How things have changed since the first season at the new ground.

We clearly have some very generous members on here.

Gary Caldwell was sacked by Wigan after a truly horrendous run of results and amidst stories of aloof arrogance.

Though such rumours must be balanced by the fact at least two dozen players have agreed to sign for him since.

He then arrived at Town with the remit of keeping us up, putting pen to paper on the understanding he'd be allowed to recruit a number of players to replace those he was being forced to exit.

Though whether the seven that actually arrived were his original targets remains doubtful.

What's beyond doubt, however, is the humiliating performances he and they delivered, the team often being pretty much out of games by half time as opponents sauntered through a stubbornly stuck to formation.

What's also beyond doubt is that six of those January arrivals were soon dropped by the very manager who'd signed them.

We finished bottom of the division winning only two of his nineteen games, a record far worse than the manager he'd replaced.

Caldwell, Eyre (don't go there. Just...don't go there) and Branston remained pugnacious at a subsequent fans forum, though, essentially saying the few positives were down to their approach whilst the many negatives were due to other factors. Long term injuries to Evans and Evatt being two. And anyway, they knew exactly what was needed to get the Club back up and had the contacts to overhaul the squad.

Well the subsequent few months have been far from convincing, it probably being fair to say we beat no one to the signatures of any new faces other than a Chris O'Grady on whom CFC gambled an Ebanks-Blake-esque top dollar.

Meanwhile the squad that was the first back in training has won one, lost five, shipped goals in exactly the same manner as last season and finds itself at the foot of the entire football league.

All of which brings us to today. For all their many faults Carson and Allen have allowed Caldwell to recruit quantity if not necessarily quantity. This is his team, selected by him, playing to his tactics so therefore it's he that should be held responsible. And if the players he's signed have come via Branston rather than his own scouting then more fool him for tolerating such an arrangement.

Chesterfield FC needs to start winning and winning soon. But if not there can be no more excuses.

If things haven't changed somewhat in the next 2-3 games, there are tough choices to be made.
A new manager with 37-38 games to go has a fair chance of pushing us up towards the right end of the table, however, if its left with 25 or so games left with not much improvement a new manager will be just looking at survival, an trust me Ashley, people are not going to want to pay to watch that.

I don't think there is anybody suggesting otherwise.

No matter how much of a success or failure he turns out to be, the quality of his support from above will never be in doubt.

Sam Hird on the radio mentioned that the tactics of spreading the midfield out and forward to give options to pass forward was OK but you need to keep things compact and tight as well.
You also need very good footballers who make the right choice, the right pass and don't give the ball away cheaply. If they do your wide open and opponents stroll through as if no ones there.
If your players are not that capable and are more prone to give the ball away, not be aware of where the other teams players are in case the ball is lost then the manager needs to adjust his ethos accordingly.
Which for 25 games he hasn't. In my humble opinion. He needs to realise this isn't Wigan with a budget of £11 million it's chesterfield with a budget of 80% or so less than that.
A new hope.
