It's not a rumour about Paul Roberts (Allen's son in law) being on the payroll it's a fact (confirmed by AC) as is it can't be explained what he currently does.

It does make you wonder who else is on the payroll that has increased by over 30% (£1.2m) since 2012. AC's only answer as to why has been "general increases"

Thanks, 'M'.

Just covering my/our asses, you understand.

Kinda makes you wonder why there's an apparent zeal to investigate the Academy's finances that doesn't seem to apply elsewhere, don't it...

Over the last few years a succession of long term Town people have left the Club.

Alan Walters...Gary Cook...Paul Watts...Ant Haywood...Alan Stevenson...

And now Jim Brown's on the brink of semi-retirement, too.

Yet who've replaced them?

Well alongside the likes of Alnassar, Bingham and Sutcliffe there was the bloke responsible for the 'Rafflegate' scandal that totally eclipsed a questionable pie deal, another commercial manager recently 'released' after only a few months, someone with zero experience as a kit man but who used to work at Carson's Assay Office - and on more money than his predecessor, then now this Richard Herrick geezer has suddenly appeared.

I wonder if we'll discover over the next few weeks there's more to his arrival than immediately meets the eye.

Oh, and just for good measure it's rumoured Dave Allen's son in law receives a salary for performing a role at the Club - though I must state there's no suggestion of any wrongdoing involved.

All I can say is it's a good job Ashley assured us Mark Smith's future is secure and he won't be undermined by anyone with absolutely no qualifications or experience in running a professional academy...

My info is that Paul Roberts is indeed employed on a part time basis at CFC on circa £18k per year.

However no one I have spoken seems to have a clue what his role at the club is ?

For sure, all of the finances need looking at including how overheads are allocated across the departments. Staff, or should that be those on the payroll, who don't have a proper role should be made redundant.

Being a layman in these things is this salary visible in the accounts or is it part of this much talked about "black hole"?

Again showing my naivety isn't this total broken down for transparency reasons? Or can we assume it's a bottomless pit?

No, although AC has since revealed the playing side total. There does seem to be a lack of control over the wage bill

Mr Roberts records his profession at Companies House as an accountant, so he might perhaps be this "forensic accountant" that was once spoken of. Part of his job description will not include keeping an eye on what's happening over in the East Stand, where he has been a director since February of this year. The Liquidator's Statement of Receipts and Payments for one of his previous companies, "Safety Compliances Ltd," are available at the "Companies House Beta" website and make for interesting reading.

Sometimes I wish we could return to the days when "Liquidator" was just the tune that Wolves run out to.
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

New kit man starts 21st March, Steve finishes 25th March. New kit man has never done the job before, has reportedly been an accountant in the bus recently. Not sure 4 days is enough time to learn the job. Hope we don't forget anyone's boots, kit, drinks or anything else the kit man is responsible for at Bolton.

playing devils advocate, he's already been shadowing Steve, he certainly travelled with the team to either Walsall or Swindon when Steve couldn't make it, IIRC

Carson:

Couple of updates before I set off to Bristol. Been a steady week. I have had a very good meeting with Mark Smith to discuss the Academy. Just to confirm that there is absolutely no worries that we will not be able to satisfy the EFL for funding. They accept things now, but there are a few things that need sharpening up and the budget needs looking at more closely. I do need help and support as I am no expert on the workings of the Academy. To that, I have asked Steve Coe of SBK Computers to assist me. He will have access to all the finances and operating costs of the Academy and in effect auditing the workings of the Academy and then provide an independant report back to me and the board. Steve is very qualified in this area and I thank him for offerring his time to help. I want to ensure that we tick every box for the EFL with confidence and have an academy to be proud of.

Gary and I will be interviewing for a Head of Recruitment / Chief Scout Position next week. This is something that is of paramount importance and the Owner is backing this position and someone to be appointed asap.

One of the offers to buy the club has been turned down. It did not in any way reach the numbers laid down by Dave Allen and infact they did not want to but everything. They were happy for DA to retain the ownership of the stadium. DA has made it clear that if he sells it must be a clean break. I await a response to see if they want to make a counter offer.

Next Season's Shirts will be arriving from PUMA next week for signing off, prior to production. We have to sign off every item and receive a sample of the shirts in various sizes to inspect.

Just arranging a start date now with Premier Pitches as to when to start work on the pitch. I have asked exactly what is being proposed and will let you know when I receive a report.

Here's hoping for 3 points tomorrow, safe journey to all who are travelling

The pitch is not looking great at the moment so it will be interesting to find out what PP propose to do about it seeing how they have allowed it to get into that state in the first place
