I was there tonight - good to see you Moondog - and that win came out of the blue really. The game ebbed and flowed - a poor power play from us batting first against some decent bowling until the two masters got stuck in and we really ended up shy of the 200 we looked on course for before they both got out. At 18/1 off 3 we were probably favourites but from there on Lancs had it under control and apart from a brief moment 4 down when we looked like wrestling the initiative again before some poor bowling saw it taken away from us. Not sure they’ll be pleased with giving he big man little strike at the end but credit to GS who bowling poorly for 3 overs before coming back to win the game.

A victory from looking like a defeat with a few overs to go

Credit to George Scrimshaw to bowl the final over after being carted all over the place in his first three overs

another match that would have ended in defeat in past seasons

Micky Arthur off the field and Shan Masood on have certainly altered the mind set of the team

only downside now is that looks like being Masoods last match in this seasons t20 competition regardless of how far we progress

Just looked and finals day at Edgbaston is the same day as the Matlock friendly. For once I would be happy to miss that and head to Birmingham...

Derbyshire with a lead of 240 DO NOT enforced the follow on with 4 sessions left. What a shocker of a decision. Absolutely bewildering Goldeman. How throw away a victory and them a sniff.

Disagree completely and probably the bowler in me....they've just spend 95 overs in the field and the main bowlers got through not far off 20 overs each, would be a big ask to go straight back out and bowl again. Also lead wasnt 240, we've scored a few already and the lead is only just over 220!

Its an ok decision providing we progress the game in the time we bat.

With the number of bowling options in the side, and only a session to bowl, the positive move I expected from MA was to enforce it. As an aside, time for BG to get a rest though he might be lucky Masood is off for a while.

Twenty runs here or there is immaterial. The psychology is against Sussex. Sorry John but your raison d'etre for batting on suggest that teams would never enforce a follow on because of tiredness which we know is not true. But they do because it's the best opportunitythere is for winning a game. Ever thought the Sussex batsmen, who stayed out there for some time, may be tired too?

...and what if we don't progress. What if we are five down at stumps? Why risk that vulnerabillty and gift the opposition the scent of a win? I've watched all day today and turned off. It's a dreadful decision.

What do others think?

Suppose there are 7 options if you include Madsen but Connors, Kerr and Dal as seamers bowled quite a few. I can see why he'd want to let them have a breather before going again.

Guest started like a house on fire this season but he's struggled of late, if he was just a batsman i suspect he may have been rested but not sure what our other keeper options are this year. Daryn Smit has been scoring a hatful for Rolleston in the County League!

Guest has credit in the bank. Don't think his place is in any danger. As feared, we're making a pig's ear of this. We should have definitely bowled again; does MA think our best chance of taking 10 wickets is with them chasing x to win as opposed to batting time? He might be right, but still I think it was the wrong move.

Jeez.....63-5

This could have been Sussex's score leaving them a whole day tomorow to survive.

The sad thing is that a Derbyshire victory will put them up there in the promotion pack. In ten minutes during the innings break, they took a decision to go from an unassailable position to one tentatively looking over their shoulder. Let's hope the lower order batsmen can get few.

No I'm not going with the knackered bowler theory either. We used 6 bowlers 1st innings and Madsen didn't bowl. With the exception of Watt none bowled more than 18 and there was potentially (doubtful though) 38 overs left which could have been managed easily.
The only logic I could come up with is with having Mckeiron has well as Watt who appeared to do well 1st innings they thought have a 20ish over thrash but with more emphasis in roughing the wicket up to assist spin.

My logic would be get 'em in, get 'em out.

With two front line spinners unless someone is out of the attack it should be simple enough to rotate to keep them fresh. It tells me MA, after the game at Derby, reckons our best chance of the win is them falling short on a last day chase.

Seen some proper nonsense on social media about the follow on

We have a small squad and the frontline bowled 20 overs each you start again and not only can they get tired and not as effective but pick up injuries

We are 340 in front with a full day to take 10 wickets the bowlers will have had a good sleep and recharged ready

I noticed the other two matches which the follow on was enforced not one wicket was taken

Quick smash around the park first hour then give them a daunting figure to chase

Possible slight delay but forecast is fine all day after the damp start.

Starting at 12:15pm providing there is no more rain which it looks like there shouldnt be. Suspect we'll be bowling straight up.

As suspected we've declared straight away. 342 at 4.5 an over suggests it'd be a good effort for even Derbyshire to lose from here!

Derbyshire CCC @DerbyshireCCC . 1m
PLAY: #DCCC have declared on 127-7, setting Sussex a target of 342 to win. Haines and Orr open for the hosts, 76 overs remaining.

Not enforcing the follow on isn't looking like the best decision now....
