Are we saying Liddle is better than Grimshaw and Nolan then?

In my book definitely better than Nolan by some way and based on the one game I have seen with Grimshaw, yes again.

Nolan gives the ball away to much, doesn't hold is position and can't last 90 mins he usually looks knackered after an hour. I'm don't know why some people rate him so highly he looks a non league player, trying his best, but playing in the league.

I've no idea if there is any truth in that, I can only hope we haven't come to this. having conceded 3 today if he doesn't start Tuesday it will add to the suspicion, one thing that did strike me though after reading this rumour on another thread was to wonder if this was one of the reasons why evatt was reinstated as captain following hird being given the arm band after liddle's departure...

If Hird had played Anderson would probably have been left out.

They were strong in the air so I guess Anderson was preferred against Hird.
God I hate this league.

If you watch Hird carefully you can see he's actually good in the air, despite his lack of height. He makes up for it by reading the game well and taking up very good positions. He is extremely clever at subtly blocking opponents who are jumping for the ball. That's why opposing forwards rarely get a clear header in when he's marking them, and also why he is probably our best player at getting on the end of high balls in the opposition box. IMO Sam Hird is the most intelligent and effective player we've got left, and I'd like to know why he was not played at Northampton.

All true. Plus any praise of Hird must also include the fact that of the first team centre havles we have, he is easily the most comfortable with the ball at his feet, and easily the best distributor of the ball. In fact the polar opposite of Anderson who perennially looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights when the ball lands at his feet.

Hird is our best centre back and should always play if fit

However, it is not uncommon for players returning from injury to come back and be placed on the bench - Liverpool did it at the weekend with Klaven on the bench after injury and Lucas playing at centre back

It is perfectly plausible that this was the case on Saturday and this rumour around contracts is a load of made up nonsense!

Sam Hird is the kinda honest, committed and reliable professional we need throughout our football club.

I find it bewildering that anyone would continue scorning his contribution whilst saying word zero against those proven anything but.

What's even more bewildering is the suggestion he'd be marginalised for financial reasons when we need him the most.

Especially after years of seeming to chuck money at all sorts of utterly unsuitable characters...

I understand the rumours about contracts are not made up, he is on the cusp of triggering a pay rise/extension. What we don't know is it how impacts on Caldwell's budget this season or next. As DV says, one hopes a compromise can be found.

Don't know anybody who doesn't rate Sam Hird. He is easily our best player by a country mile.

IF the rumour is true about contract extension , then I can only assume he is too expensive for Division 2

It is, but then it is perfectly plausible that the rumoured '2 apps for a contract extension' is true also, especially given that Phil Tooley apparently referred to it during commentary on Saturday, and he generally is close enough to know such things.

If it is the case, why would the club not just come out and say so? If they do manage to renegotiate with him, and he, like so many of the squad, are playing for a new deal, then surely that's a positive for the club, for GC and for Sam himself?

Agree with all those saying that Sam Hird is one of our best players....the way he turned things around from being transfer listed is a credit to him as a professional when you compare it to many who would have spat the dummy and got their agent to find them a way out as quick as possible.

Spot on and tbf he is the one player that looks like he can win a header at a set piece in the opposition box. If he was a few inches taller he certainly wouldn't be playing for town.
