I had a call this evening asking me to begin the process of donating plasma and I was asked to go to Leeds on Wednesday. This means I can't give blood as you can't do both.

There seemed to be a sense of urgency and the guy who called me suggested preparations are being made for the second wave. An antibody vaccine is really being pushed and they need lots of plasma.

sadly that makes sense

1) The large number of older / vulnerable people who are close to 6 months since completing their first vaccinations and who may therefore be losing protection;
2) Increased likelihood of non-vaccination (phase 2) or some vaccinated (phase 1) people
3) Delta variant being more resistant
4) Potential for trickier new variants to emerge
5) General relaxations of rules regarding travel, workplaces, shops, venues etc and potential for more spread during winter due to less ventilation, less mask wearing, less distancing etc
6) Supply chain vulnerability due to transport and materials issues
7) NHS staff and system being overwhelmed

Probs nothing to do with the blood loss more likely to do with just having a needle stuck in him, our lass is a phlebotomist and it happens about once a week on average,...

Would've thought that would happen shortly after the needle entering the arm rather than when he's had it all done and sat down in the snacks/refreshment bit afterwards (i'm aware i didn't specify that in the post)

No, she's had em pass out like that, she can be just having a general chit chat with em after doing their bloods, and they just drift off,... mind you she does have that affect on me sometimes... lol

Not entirely true. The loss of blood can cause your blood pressure to drop for a short time. Luckily never happened to me. You used to have to lay down for 15 mins now it's just 5 just to allow your blood pressure to recover. Different people react differently. No long term harm though

For all our differences on this we are as one. Pity most don't care as long as blood is there should they need it. My next donation is 28th December

As I said before I’m really disappointed in myself I didn’t do it years ago due to some confusion re nut allergy but I’ll do my best to make up.
I was genuinely shocked when I found out that out of around 40 million who could donate in the UK only around 800,000 do!

But the other 39.2m people will demand the blood if they ever need it. People can be so selfish and self centered.

Liverpool infirmary for me. I am after years waiting for a credible reason why those who can donate don't. Probably because there isn't one.

28 November is my next donation. Every 16 weeks for me, without fail.

I have a very boring blood group but ..... they needs lots of it. They're always super keen that I keep my appointment, which I always do; anything for a cuppa and a Penguin, me :)

Think my last lot went to Donnie :)

What is a boring blood group? I'm O- a rather small percentage of people have this blood group, but it's the only one that everyone can receive. A O- person can only receive O- blood
