he never had much quality... he did have heart and massive work rate... which we could definitely do with!

loved niven because he gave everything he had for cfc, honest player who never hid. I think we need someone in cm who can run games. last season we had sam morsy for half a season, he dragged the rest of them through that 1st half of the season, without him we would have gone down. cm is such a key position and i'm sorry to say we don't have a decent one, i'm saying that having never seen angel. I like Nolan but he doesn't do enough.

We don't have anyone who can break up the play, putting the foot in where it hurts there is just no passion anywhere in the side

I agree and what a sad thing that is for pro footballers, I wasn't there yesterday but watching the highlights I saw gboly just watch their player drift by him on his way to setting up the attack that led to their goal with an attitude like it was nothing to do with him. sam hird could break up play but atm there is no way you could move him out of defence to play cm. danny Wilson is arguably one of the best cm we have ever had pull on a blue shirt yet he has signed 3 cm players who are just not that good, like I say I like Nolan but its a big ask for this lad, he needs decent help

That goal against Grimsby......
It was his first game back after his recovery, I can see it now. Hit it so hard, saw it curl round the keeper into the net.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Unforgettable goal from a vastly underrated player. I was right behind it on the Kop and can still see and hear it as if I was there. His last ever goal at Saltergate to give us a 2-1 win v Bournemouth wasn't too bad either.

Loved the guy and he clearly loves the game to still be playing at such a lowly level.

His goal v Man City is one of my favourite ever Town moments. Loved Niven. A player who had big limitations but was always a 7 out of 10.

I'm not sure he could be described as underrated either. He achieved a decent FL career with very little talent but plenty of guts & hard work. If Gary Liddle had half of what Dirk had under his shirt we'd be several places higher up the table.

His partner in crime, Mark Allot, was pretty consistent as well - he'd walk into this team.

Didn't MacF start one season with just two central midfielders and we still stayed up?

I'm not sure about that but I'm sure one season we were fortunate and those two started virtually every game. 2005/6?

At least Niv was capable of at least one cracking goal per season.

Yes. According to a post he made on Facebook some time last week anyway.

Didn't he start Evo in midfield that season, then (through injuries) he put him in defence next to Blathers. The start of a special journey for him.

Edit: Infact I'd go as far to say that he started Evo in midfield that season, he was poor. Not his position, not at all.
