I was informed today that a gentleman who I have been fortunate enough to sit behind in row P of the East Stand for the last 6 odd years passed away on Saturday after a recent fight with cancer. I didn't know Derek outside of football, nor do I know his family. However it was clear 8 weeks ago when we saw him last that he had become very poorly indeed over the summer. What I also know is that I shall miss our chats every other weekend, the little fixture cards he use to give us all at the start of every season and his ability to stay calm when all others - including myself - had well and truly lost the plot.

If you are a member of Derek''s close friends or family, my deepest condolences to you.

Dave L.

We're Row O block 5 in the East stand so don't know if it's close to us or not, but as always deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.
East stand second class citizen.

Found out yesterday that unfortunately Derek Huckerby is the man in question. I first met Derek through Geoff Seagrave one time landlord/steward of various clubs and pubs(also no longer with us) Derek and Geoff were a fantastic double act to be out with socially playing of each others differing wit.
In the early 70s great times were had following town and supping in the Farm (no longer with us)
Derek I believe was a season ticket holder from the Archer/Fennoughty era to the present day. I mention Archer 'cos Derek always had a word for olde Dan. Derek worked at Donkins probably all his working life (although I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't do a couple of years at comedy school) and was regularly seen drinking on t'Moor on Saturday night.
Rest in peace old mate, thanks for all the fun, heaven will be a funnier place.
Mick
