So, just to clarify, essentially you are saying the police withheld evidence?

Of course not. How would I know? It's possible though, and food for thought before folk jump to conclusions.

That's far too judgemental.
There could be a new witness or, God forbid, the police could have been withholding evidence which might have helped the defence. They were desperate for a conviction.

If there's a new witness, new evidence, whatever, and he is found innocent then it proves he did not commit the crime. the alternative is that she has either lied or the conviction wasn't safe in the first place. Either way if rape isn't applicable, and he is innocent, you're saying she was still probably telling the truth but a jury don't believe her now due to new evidence?? Sorry struggling to make sense of that dim. They can't both be innocent or guilty at the same time?

It does amaze me how people view footballers v everyday folk. All this rehabilitation talk, served his time, has the right to rebuild his life....if the rumours are true and he's committed similar acts elsewhere (but is found innocent this time), that still makes him a scumbag; i certainly question his morality.

With all due respect to our resident police person, Trevor; i agree with his comments about the Aka and Brad, etcetera...but if these things are just cheating / a one-off...there's a huge difference between that and a serial sex pest.

I have a question for all of the 'served his time / rehabilitation' apologists.....how would you feel about a convicted, but rehabilitated, child molester teaching your children or taking your kids off camping with the cubs/scouts? Or, Adam Johnson coaching girls football....?

Where did he state that the police withheld evidence? Or does 'could have' now mean they did? Anyway how could anyone even contemplate the police could have withheld evidence? They are the enforcers of the law, oh sorry almost forgot Hillsborough, Orgreve, Birmingham etc etc

I applaud all you Spireites that take a moral stand against your club for signing this piece of filth.

Like the moral stand you took when you signed Chapman who did time for killing a pensioner in his car, also employing a hooker as CEO,glass houses scab and all that.

I am no longer a Chesterfield supporter. This is the end. Hope the club goes bankrupt and I hope Ched Evans rots in hell. They are made for each other. They have betrayed the fans.

I'll give you a fiver for your season ticket?

I think his conviction will probably be overturned. The ones who say they aren't going again are entitled to feel that way, not everyone follows the same thought and moral path as others. If they feel that way then that's fine and should not be vilified for it. They are no more or less a Spireite for that decision it's their free will.

However if his conviction is completely overturned then people must accept he is cleared and get over whatever their problem is.
Judgement should be reserved until early October when the re-trial is over. Then and only then can anyone take a stance morally. IF he is cleared I might add that the young lady in question needs to face charges herself for lying.
Unfortunately the attention bought to the club will be unbearable for some, as was the case for thousands of Sufc fans who were literally branded rape apologists for their club thinking of letting him train with them let alone actually sign.
I've also seen somewhere the Cfc PR described as being 'genius'
Righto.
Now that did make me laugh. Not the word i'd use for them at all.

She didn't lie, why do you keep saying this? Stop victim blaming.

Come on, cut him some slack, you know how much he struggles with these simple tasks.

The way I see it is this. Up to the conviction being quashed he was guilty and as such I wanted him no where near the club. The conviction has been quashed and he is now innocent so we should have no problems signing him. However if found guilty in October at his retrial which I doubt will be the case then I will want him gone. Lets all settle down a little and pass judgement after the retrial.

Superb, measured post.

He never at any point mentioned that the police withheld evidence. He said they could have. So why ask the question at all?

The capital IF is there for a reason.
IF he's found to be innocent questions will be asked, that's an angle I was covering maybe too direct and no blame intended sorry if you took it hat way, but that's what I actually mean.
I'm not blaming anyone I wasn't there, and neither were you!

Because in two separate posts he said exactly the same thing...that, to me, warranted further investigation, hence the question....he was clearly making a point of it, drawing attention to the possibility, why?

Brilliant. Well structured and inventive.

If you think that's a good move for your club then fair enough mate.

That's fine I wished he had gone somewhere else, but In all honesty what if you had signed him, especially if he scored against us wouldn't have cheered would you?

No, as I wouldn't be in the ground.

Well yes, exactly like the moral stand I took when Chapman signed. I didn't buy a season ticket for the first time in 20 odd years. I also really struggled to attend games when he signed on loan 2 seasons before.

And I wasn't throwing stones, I was applauding the majority of your fan's views that I've read on this thread.
