Talk about stereotype if only you were a bit more/less articulate you could get a job with the daily mail...

England fans in drinking and singing shocker!!!!

A few got attacked by the locals last night and reacted, tonight they were attacked by a few ruskie hooligans and again a mindless few reacted. The world's press were there waiting for a photo opportunity and cheap headline but all 50,000 there will be coke snorting lunatics eh? Do me a favour....

Yes there are some unsavoury types who follow us but I've been abroad with England and found that quiet bar in a side street but still been set about by locals and the police...in short you are talking bollox and don't have a clue as per usual!!!!

I dont think theyre mindless. If someone goes at you, you go back twice as hard.

Its not steretypical of every single supporter but its a fact that all the ones in the port of marseille are there for trouble..how much evidence do people want before they realise.

They aren't as I know 2 of our directors at work are their and yes they may have a drink but for what they have paid for tckt flight and accommodation it wasn't cheap. As they clearly wanted to be at the match and back at work for Monday where I will find out what's really being going on from a fans view not let's all blanket them with the same comments

Don't disagree!

The point still remains the same though, the vast majority have just gone for a party yet get branded by the press (and Bonnyman) as hooligans when there's a bit of trouble caused by a few....which is frankly ridiculous!

How much is a few, 100, 500, 1000, one thing for sure they'll be loads of hangers on.

I have 3 friends who are out there and they certainly won't be anyway near that scene, however I doubt they'll agree with you as they were predicting trouble before they went. France is just too easy to get to

The number involved is hair splitting Azul!

The majority have gone for party, like I and plenty of other spireites did in Germany in 2006! Tens of thousands of English went and there was a bit of trouble in Stuttgart which the press then overhyped massively....

There's always going to be bit of trouble at every tournament given alcohol, sun and large numbers of young men but the assertion that all England fans in the port of Marseille are hooligans is still total bollox!

Numbers involved isn't really splitting hairs, it is pretty important. I have no doubt it is a small minority but those pictures are pretty incriminating. What I don't get is if you are just there for a good time, why a) not just walk away from the area when trouble is brewing b) congregate in these areas in the first place with clowns waving blow up spitfires and singing about world war II

Bonnyman is correct, this minority (how ever significant it is) feeds the English stereotype just as some German stealing your favourite bathing spot in one of the Costas feeds the German one. Stereotypes are rarely accurate and are always over simplified.

My mates are part of the travel club and have gone to every tournament in the 25 years I have known them. Apart from those tournaments that were remote they always come back moaning at the behaviour of our fans even if there hasn't been mass trouble. Ukraine was probably the exception

You know perfectly well having been to matches over the years, that sometimes the police won't simply let you walk away from an area. Preferring to contain in one place etc. Ideal world you would walk off but not always an option

We moved out of the main central square in Bratislava when we played Slovakia about 13 years ago as it looked like there was going to be trouble. We went to a quiet bar in a side street met some QPR lads who were bang on and were all happily drinking together when in came the riot police and battered us for no reason!

So I'm afraid your just walk away argument falls down a bit there.....

Bonnyman asserted that it's a 'fact' that all England fans in the port are looking for trouble....that is anything but correct as demonstrated by posts from people who are actually there and people who are going to other games!

I was in Cologne then, when we played Sweden I think. Hoped to get tickets before going but it didn't materialise, so went anyway as had already bought cheap flights there. When large numbers of English fans arrived the atmosphere turned from a kind of festival to ugly. So many drunks behaving badly! Was with Mrs but even if I had been with mates I wouldn't have wanted to hang around near the bars and fan zone where our boys were massed. Maybe it's my age...

I was in Cologne that day and we drank in some bars down by the river where it was absolutely lovely....unless you happened to be Brian Barwick, as he got a real tongue lashing off a few fans when he strolled past for some reason!

Not having that I'm afraid.

I'm talking about when it is clear the nutters are congregating and it is just becoming too obnoxious or trouble is brewing before any police action. I watched a couple of games in Lisbon at the Portugal tournament and if we were in one of those areas we moved off easy enough, drinking elsewhere in the city

I think the coverage seem proportional to me, significant numbers involved or standing by goading. Reasonably impartial reporting as well with mention of local youths and Russian fans causing trouble. But lets face it, there is a common factor
