Talk about stereotype if only you were a bit more/less articulate you could get a job with the daily mail...

England fans in drinking and singing shocker!!!!

A few got attacked by the locals last night and reacted, tonight they were attacked by a few ruskie hooligans and again a mindless few reacted. The world's press were there waiting for a photo opportunity and cheap headline but all 50,000 there will be coke snorting lunatics eh? Do me a favour....

Yes there are some unsavoury types who follow us but I've been abroad with England and found that quiet bar in a side street but still been set about by locals and the police...in short you are talking bollox and don't have a clue as per usual!!!!

I agree with your post but I would suggest, to a certain extent, what England fans experience on their travels is similar to clubs like Millwall over here. England roll up in town with a reputation and every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to have a pop. England fans react / defend themselves. The press jump all over it and England are nothing more than a bunch of mindless thugs intent on trouble. I'd suggest there are clear parallels to the likes of Millwall.

I'm not disputing your point, I just think if the scenes reported were Millwall away at Marseille, we would be happy to bemoan the mindless Millwall thugs tarnishing our national reputation.

I agree with some of your points but again it is the majority of the fans that are tarnished with the same brush as the minority of trouble makers.I've been to World Cup tournaments and trust me the press in all of its guises are looking for that headline story. The problem is people like Bonnyman are quick to judge without knowing the facts.

Its not steretypical of every single supporter but its a fact that all the ones in the port of marseille are there for trouble..how much evidence do people want before they realise.

'All the ones in the port of Marseille are there for trouble' the master of the sweeping totally incorrect generalisation strikes again!

I'm sure all of the perfectly respectable middle aged England fans I know who have gone to Marseilles will have turned into coke snorting, axe wielding homicidal maniacs the minute they saw a baguette....

I know an older married couple who are town fans who went to Moscow with the official supporters club and said it was the scariest trip they ever made. Anyone speaking English was getting thumped and the only safe place was in their hotel, which had to be protected by the army/police with tanks....

Still I'm sure they were there looking for trouble......like all England away fans do apparently!

What a load of rubbish.

You state all are there for trouble as Fact!! I know this is not a fact and the fact of the matter is there are plenty of England fans there, purely for a good time and the football.

You should have been at the fan zone last night, it was enough to turn anyone to drink and drugs, it was terrible, but the night got better in the port with a largely well behaved large group of England fans. A small incident and a burst of tear gas was the total amount of trouble that we saw. Looking forward to today's atmosphere and game.

The vast majority of English fans will be doing exactly what you say in your first sentence...it's the idiotic and senseless minority again getting the headlines with their behaviour. Worrying thing is that some of those you see aren't exactly young either. As I said earlier Marseille is probably the worst place we could have ended up for the game what with the local hooligan minority as well.

They are just brainless.

I better not bother going over next Saturday with my 13 year old nephew then. Don't want him turning into a coke head at such a young age.

Total bull what bonnymans just said , if I was over there now I'd have been down at the port having a drink and I've never got involved in trouble at the football or anywhere else for that matter but if I'd have been attacked then I'd have had to defend myself...would that make me a coked up thug?

This is true. The England fans you see on tv news are a small % of those in Marseille, but they get all the publicity because of their "boisterous" behaviour and what that can lead to. Its easy for everyone to think such behaviour is typical of England fans - especially when that small % amounts to hundreds of fans. Quite a few on the harbour might not even be going to the game tonight. Does anyone on here follow England abroad knowing they probably won't be able to attend the game?

Yes tens of thousands of England fans do just that.In Germany 2006, the stadium in Nurenberg only had a capacity of 30k but there was near to 100k fans in the city that day, most without tickets. There was a very good following from Chesterfield that day.None had tickets until they managed to buy them on the morning of the match.

A picture doesn't tell all the story though.

The shirtless youth that seems to be in the firing line of the bottle doesn't look like he's gearing up to catch it.
