Even with John retained until the end of the season, this is a damn shame and a substantial blow. <_<

Absolutely gutted by this, Jones was one of our best players before his injury and would have added some required depth for the run in.

Let's hope he manages to get over this latest set back and is fighting fit for the L1 campaign next year.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some defensive cover come in now, before Thursdays loan deadline.

In what way is this down to the Sports Science and Medical Department? Player breaks ankle in a freak accident, it is dealt with pretty normally i presume by a surgeon putting in the screws to help it heal which it did to the point he made a comeback in a reserve game. Then in another freak incident the screws used have caused an issue no where near his ankle so need dealing with hence the longer spell on the sidelines. I know we like to have a pop at various factions of the club at times but not sure how this can be down to anything but bad luck.

Because some people are still in the 90s and think we shouldn't be wasting money on sports science

In the game against Gateshead he came off with a foot problem diagnosed as a problem with his boots. He plays in another reserve game and then a week later he is diagnosed with a foot injury that will keep him out for weeks

Couple that with Evatt's mis-diagnosis which in his own words wasted weeks, then someone is a fault. Either the club or the specialists we send our players to.

Good job it isn't the NHS, we'd be having a public enquiry.

It was a problem with the screw in his foot, not really a thing a sports scientist could do anything about, probably they they thought he had a problem with his boot.

Edit: just seen the same things being said on the other thread

The point being he came off with a foot injury against Gateshead and blamed ill fitting boots, laughable

Has his tight boot finished him off?

For the season by the sounds of it.

Perhaps I was being unfair to the Sports Science and Medical department, they diagnosed the correct foot with Jones and with Evatt they even managed to work out which leg was giving him a problem

No they didn't...they didn't know what it was. Phil Toolley mentioned tight boots but the clubs update said they thought it could be the ankle taping that was ruled out in training afterwards, had other boots as an option to rule it out and now after further investigation have found this issue was the cause.

Danny Wilson did as well

I bet he is well chuffed that he's been running around on his secondary injury for 2 weeks

Edit
If you are still in doubt, Danny's interview here, 1 min 50 in

http://www.player.ch...78-540c8dffb509

He went into quite a bit of detail, someone fed him the info and I doubt it was Phil Tooley

Never saw that from Wilson....from reading the injury update just after it nothing was mentioned about a tight boot definitely being the cause but it was mentioned as something that would be checked to make sure.

As for secondary injury from the way its worded i dont think running around on it will have caused any issues. The ankle had healed and the screws had done their job from that point of view but had caused an irritation that led to discomfort in another part of the foot i suspect which is why it felt like the boots rubbing or the taping up causing an issue. The reason he i presume he is now in a non-weightbearing boot is to keep it stable after removing the screws to make sure all goes ok pre & post surgery more than further ankle issues.

The hospital in Sheffield where Evatt had his scan said there was only wear and tear on his ligaments, when in fact they managed to miss a 4cm tear.

Disappointing.

Good luck in your recovery, Dan, and see you in preseason. Would have been between DAN and Novak for POTY awards, I'm sure, if he had not been out injured for half of it.
