Ha, that's my copy for tomorrow morning's Star. The perils of combining web and print work. Cheers for the heads up!

No worries.

£3.5m for Roberts? I wonder how much Arry's dog is making from that?
These go to eleven.

Interesting article- they have full-time pro players in the Norwegian fourth tier?
These go to eleven.

I was surprised too, but then considered that we've had full-time players as far down as the Northern Premier League. You can be full-time with a bunch of kids who don't cost the earth if you're set up right.

Although it didn't work out too well for Ilkeston.

How does a player with Buxton/Clipstone have an agent?

And how does said agent get him a pro deal with a Norwegian 4th tier outfit??

Suspect its more to do with him being a recently released CFC prospect rather than him playing for Buxton/Clipstone. I doubt the agent would still be present if Milner had been stuck in the lower non leagues for several years.

Didn't Jacob Hazel have a loan spell or at least move over that way a couple of years ago?

I suppose they could have the odd one or two in each squad?
I lived in New Zealand years ago, the local team were in the top division (pretty poor standard, I even trained with them!) they had a lad over from Woking who was their captain, he was on a pro deal, the whole package he was on was pretty good considering the fan base and set up etc.
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always get.

I have to say, at the risk of being labelled 'over optimistic' that Ricky German looked a rate handful last night. He won't be at the bottom of the strikers' pecking order.

Yep. A good workout and lots to talk about...

Anyon, I think, is as close to a Tommy Lea clone as you can get. Quick, agile, not very tall.

Wiseman. Taller and quicker than Sam Hird. Very vocal, natural leader. Communicated very effectively with Evo.

Perhaps the biggest outstanding question remaining is whether the defence can be effective if Evo gets injured. He is visibly lighter, fitter, greater effective aggressive, which says a lot about whoever managed him last year.

First time I'd seen Jay Smith. Not very tall and built like the proverbial brick s**thouse. Played out of position as a right footed LB and may struggle to play in his natural CH position unless he grows, which at his age is perfectly possible. The poor lad has had a very serious injury, ruptured ankle ligaments I think, so I wish him all the best. Reminded me of Dutch Holland.

Barry. Right wing back. Not really called on defensively but constantly pressured the left back backards, getting behind to look for long balls from Wiseman.

Bomb On Williams. Had a dream debut. Impossible to see why Peterborough released him. I had a vision of him being hot headed and a poor distributor. There has to be some reason why the purists of Peterborough don't like him. I was wrong. A good powerhouse replacement for Dan J.

Sinnott. Same style as Angel. Good accurate fetcher and carrier. Played simple passes to frustrate the opposition. No sign yet of long throws or accurate set piece deliveries.

Brewster. Very left footed. I though he had trouble holding the ball up when he had his back to goal. His brain was working faster than his feet and he lost the ball too easily. On the other hand, very strong tricky and fast when facing goal.

Ugwu. Hmmm. Very favourable first impressions. Power, excellent hold up play, beat the CH to balls over the top. He'll be judged though on his finishing composure which we saw nothing of.

German. The other night, was awesome. He looks as though he has got himself fit at last and there is no way he will not be judged a first team squad man.

Thanks for your detailed first impressions. We will see how they perform under pressure against better players who keep the ball better. For eg Barry...sounds like he had the freedom to press the rb as there was not much up front to trouble him.
Evatt looks fitter, that's good, presumably no forward capable of turning him in that game. But if Wiseman is quick that will be a big boost to central defence and he may cover If Evo gets done for pace. So Hird will be cover for CB ...and CM, assuming GC signs the required CM players and Hird stays of course.
Sorry to learn that Anyon is no bigger than Lee.

They're both an inch taller than the £25M Jordan Pickford.
