not sure the point about playing an XI is wholly true. We have played similar sides in the past, such as an Aston Villa XI, to better crowds. For some, disenchantment with the powers that be was a reason for non attendance last night, yet no mention. Is this the start?

Attendance that night 3,740 (996 from Villa)

Yes back in the days we released actual friendly attendance figures.

I wonder who picked up the phone first, the DT or CFC?

I'm told the club's stance has been that the DT need the club more than the club need the DT. It's a positive move, but then I could never understand the DT's ban in the first place. At times, we appeared to be more interested in controlling the DT's output than addressing the subject that was creating the headlines.

I just hope that the agreement doesn't impact on the DT's output in the future, whether that be positive or negative.

Actually neither, when I met Ashley last week and we discussed what needed to change I mentioned amongst other things that the Derbyshire Times ban ought to be lifted as in the fans eyes it was thoroughly undeserved.

The following week I was approached by the DT (Graham had been on holiday the previous week when Rafflegate came to light) and asked if I'd be willing to chat about my "tour memoirs" and the way forward for Spireites and the fans.

I contacted Ashley to inform him of this out of courtesy and that I intended to speak about my trip to Hungary and give my views that he knew about as to the way forward (see posting on this thread or page 102 of this weeks print edition of the DT) during this conversation Ashley indicated he would be willing for us to meet the Derbyshire Times together.

During my conversation with Graham I mentioned this and he confirmed, as I think was obvious from his Sheffield Wednesday match report (also on this thread) from the Kop that the newspaper wanted the normal media access back and would be happy to meet Ashley.

So I arranged for us to meet yesterday being the earliest convenient date for all parties, as the press release states the talks were positive but it just needed agreement from DA to approve the return of normal media access. This was approved last night and the parties agreed the joint statement today. I saw this at the same time as everyone else.

I don't think it's my place or would be right to disclose any details as to what was said at the hearing, except it was positive as confirmed in the joint press release, appreciating I was in privileged position of being allowed to attend. It's only right to also add AC didn't mind me disclosing how the meeting came about.

I was subsequently so relieved an agreement in principle had been reached and the/a fans voice was being listened to that following the meeting I went straight down to the club and bought my ticket for last night's match.

I'm hoping a corner has been now been turned and I hope we can all rally round to give Danny and the boys the support they deserve.

Radio Sheffield on Tuesday night point blank refused to talk about Evans, sighting they had taken legal advice and it being pre trial period.

Wonder if they will talk about CT. Be interesting if a Chesterfield caller gets passed the switchboard vetting.

Respect to you.

Who was present in the meeting?

In the scheme of things, the DT's position and relationship with the club is a peripheral subject. Supporters want to see a professional, well-run viable club. This is THE subject that needs addressing. Why can't the club generate a profit despite record levels of income and why has the balance sheet deteriorated by 44% over the past 3 years? You have to remember, that at every opportunity the owner has pointed out the need for the business to trade profitability and in doing so, reduce the level of debt. Just to also point out, the decline in the value of the balance sheet coincides with changes in key personnel behind the scenes too.

Whatever our thoughts on how the club is being run, I don't think it impacts on our support of the first team manager and his players.

Not at all, despite there being more deserving causes the meeting had to be brought forward because Ashley had an unexpected VIP guest to entertain at the match.

I'm still taking all of this with a road gritter's worth of salt.
For all Moondog's noble work it does seem that Carson has him dancing on strings.
I think in future we need to hear any information directly from Carson, out in the public arena. As it stands we're just getting 'tell your nasty friends on that there message board to back off', under the guise of 'we want to rebuild bridges'. Liaisons in coffee shops are all very well but it won't put bums on seats.
It'll be a chilly day in Hades before I trust anything Carson says I'm afraid.

It's probably a good idea to keep him away when the grown ups are talking.

So he wasn't present at meeting, but was quoted in the article as if he was.

They must still have him in the corner with fingers on lips...
