Must say I'm very pleased with the way Danny has given us new hope, and the quality of Danny's new lads.

A good gaffer as we all new. He can see where we were lacking and moved to address it.

The least said about yesterday's sub the better, we all make mistakes.

Doubt he would have done it at 2-1.
Probably last chance saloon for Mani

As has been said in another thread we can only assume it was for his height in defensive situations plus a fresh pair of legs to put pressure on their centre halves.

Can I hazard a guess?

Two reasons. As somebody else, to give us more height to defend at set pieces. To give Slew a little reminder of the commitment he's got to show if he wants to be at the forefront of DW's thinking.

My preconception of Slew is that he is a Harrison/Armand/Mani clone, but he's not as tall as I thought he would be. Perhaps he's more of a Novak type than a front man?

I hope you're wrong Dim, can't see him lasting long if he is. Give him a chance to show what he can do.

I'm all for that.

IF Danny just gave him a little food for thought about the amount of effort and commitment he will need to put in in order to get the jersey, then I'm all for that as well.

Or, after a long spell without regular football, maybe he's not up to full fitness, yet.

The only rationale I can apply is DW sees them in training every day.

When i have seen Slew he did nothing special BUT he is way ahead of Mani in terms of ability. Mani for me would struggle in the leagues below the conference!!

So, is he an out and out Ian Wright type front man?

everyone has a bad day, just that we're still waiting for Mani to have a good one. He needs sending out on loan to build some confidence.

Sometimes sending a player elsewhere can damage the confidence. Can work both ways.

All this rubbish about he was put on to defend set pieces. The bloke cannot win a header or control the ball with nobody around him so god knows how he was meant to do it in our own penalty area. He is hopeless and I will go out on a limb and say the worst player to play for CFC since Michael Barnes. His performance at Colchester was an absolute joke, particularly the part where he actually turned around and passed the ball to the other team.

For a club who once had players like Lester, Ward and Davies..it is a story state of affairs that a player like Mani can get anywhere near our first team. Ship him out, and quick

If that's the criteria for our forwards there should be a big queue.

We simply are unable to hold the ball up there, that would help so much in all instances

I don't think he was put on for his defensive qualities - he stayed up front most of his time on, I feel he was there as nuisance value as the CB's had free reign to push the ball straight back at us.

Is this the reason why Danny has brought in Slew?

If Jordan can cause centre backs problems and hold the ball up this would give more time for our midfielders to get forward and our defence to get more organised. SEB very rarely gets the better of a centre back in an aerial combat so the ball comes back towards our defence very quickly.

In a 4-4-2 perhaps SEB would benefit from a target man at his side. In a 4-3-3 perhaps a bigger man, capable of holding the ball up, will bring others into the game more and help us control it more.

With a little tinkering Danny seems to have given our squad more balance and competition for places all over the park, especially when some of the walking wounded return, compared to the lop-sided squad he inherited.

Correction DTP , SEB never gets the better of a centre back. Regarding your comment re- walking wounded, I would love to see Dan Jones and Declan John on the left. That would be awesome.

What you are really warming to is the fact that we have, at last, got options. Both Jones and John might be better going forward than defending but together they have pace. So, whilst we have been short of a LB for ages we could suddenly have two. Additionally, I think Novak's best performances are on the left and Donohue remains an option.

On the right, I think O'Neil is the best RB at the club but we have Talbot beginning to look fitter if not performing at his best. In front of them we have Ariyibi slowly learning defensive duties whilst frightening opposition defences with Gardner as cover.

Up front, it is hoped that Slew can put SEB under real pressure for a starting place and young Simons can be quite useful as a sub and certainly knows where the onion bag is.

Central defence remains a concern but Hird played very well yesterday and Anderson has settled in well whilst Raglan should be fit again soon but Evatt is struggling.

Additionally, certain players like Liddle and Novak can play in a number of roles giving us a more balanced squad than we have had all season. Danny, has achieved this within a couple of months of being appointed - just think what he might achieve if given the benefit of building the squad for next season. He will have had time to assess what we have and what he thinks we lack with time to wheel and deal.

I'm quietly confident.
