Y'know, I can't help feeling an acute sense of futility upon re-visiting this thread.

Sad old ***, I know, but sometimes I just choose a page number at random and start reading. It is fascinating and scary. Did page 100 and onwards last night. If ever Graham Bean needs some bed time reading he could do the same.

Indeed.
Typical arrogance to assume that their new found fan base will not care about who runs the club.

I suppose it would be considered foolish to think this project is about football!

If they get one it will be a bonus, as I believe this is just vehicle get fee paying mainly foreign youths who wouldn't have a clue that the reason Britain's biggest city without a professional club hasn't got one is because there is little demand

I am sure that will play a part, but in my opinion, this is about the redevelopment of Wakefield Trinity's ground and the financing of the same.

All of which begs a very simple question - why does everyone appear to've got away with what's happened at ours' except the honest supporters?

In the majority of cases, that is football.

This paragraph is an absolute beauty:

“The realisation of this dream is due to the combined hard work of some determined business people, the conviction of former Premier League goalkeeper, Chris Turner and the professional acumen of Russ Green, who will be CEO of the venture."

Not the first time I've considered individuals involved in our recent past and hoped to see a report with the word "Conviction" in it.

Do FA rules not apply at lower levels? How can the CEO and the Chairman pass 'fit and proper person' tests?

Wakefield had a evostick premier club not so long back that failed probably due to poor supoirt. Not sure what makes this lit think these will be any different. Going to be even harder building a fan base playing out if town. Hemsworth mw are also n Wakefield and play in the novel

The Evostick team also finished off playing at Belle Vue home of Wakefield Trinity at the time they folded at the end of the 2013/14 season but couldn't make it pay, despite the fact they merged with a team with a rich history Emley, formed in 1903, played West Ham in the third round of the FA cup in the late 90's.

I once saw them play a local derby v Ossett Town there on August Bank Holiday in 2012, there were more away fans than home in an attendance of 154.

Incidentally I've since discovered a certain Liam Sutcliffe was their assistant manager around this time, hard to imagine he's not involved again now, strange they've not announced who the manager is when they claim to have already played games against EFL U23 teams

The side that has played against those EFL u-23 teams is the FBT Academy side. since they are clearly going to become the Wakefield AFC playing staff, it is safe to assume that Liam will be putting all his non-league experience to good use as their manager. Indeed, the @AcademyFBT twitter feed has recently been renamed "Wakefield AFC Official."

Their selection process must be broadly based on those who have had recent dealings with the FA's Compliance Unit!

Not forgetting Kevin Fitzgerald who also ended up at FBT. So to recap, Sutcliffe, Fitzgerald and now Turner and Russ Green.

and what about 'the culmination of a 9 year dream'?

Could another club have been the original target or is that Machiavellian absurdity?

I do not think so.

This article is nearly two years old but it gives you a brief insight. https://www.dailysta...cats-New-Ground

And another: https://www.dailysta...by-Super-League

There are many other articles available online which are nine or ten years old covering the same subject and individual.

Thanks. Good read, seems a bit like the non league version of the mk Dons saga. I was fully aware of Emory's rich history. Uncles a bishop Auckland fan who played them for many years and also shared with a cricket club. Never realised they had shared various ground during there later years, often the beginning of the end. Also notice from article they never got on with the rugby club, how's this going to change with this new lot of wonder?

Good point, if the Rugby Club were in agreement the report of the press conference wouldn't have said they hoped to share grounds and colours with the Rugby club, who have not issued anything supporting the plan.

In fact they have just purchased the stadium without need or reference to the football club, although I suppose they could be amongst the parties they are in discussions with.
