I see attempts are being put forward to give the remaining players who are alive a knight-hood in appreciation of their efforts way back. Alf Ramsey, Bobby Charlton and Geof Hurst received their knight-hood almost immediately and to me the handling of these awards tant amounts to a balls up and at the time a complete disrespectful act to the remaining team members. I know Bobby Moore received a knight-hood but I'm not sure when that was.

Surely the squad should receive any awards and not just the winning team.

I'm lucky enough to have seen the event but to me this just doesn't sit right considering the above and I've no objection to those lads still alive receiving the knight-hood.

God I hate this league.

Geoff Hurst didn't get his knighthood until 1998, Bobby Charlton didn't get his until 1994. Bobby Moore was never knighted.

I bow to your superior knowledge, the awards being discussed seem to be shamefully handled as I said.

As far as I know there's no brass in a knighthood. Its a patronising and empty gesture. It'd make more sense to provide these ex-players with enough income to not need to flog their shirts and medals, which so many of em have.

 Agree with that.I know it's a different era and altogether a different world with all the cash thrown at football at the highest level. But when you compare the 66 squad to todays overpaid players who rather drop out of the England set up because they're tired! It doesn't stand looking at. :blink:Sir Rooney and party----nah!
Many a good tune
