So he scored 3 in his last 2 games for us and TEN in his last 18, that better than a goal every two games, and Cook was on the verge of dropping him!... :D  :D Oh dear dear CT, what to think now!

But as I have said before, do you deduct tax when you pay interest on your car hp, your bank loan/overdraft/, your mortgage interest or your credit card interest? You don't, because you don't have to. I am just telling you from my experience.

Directors say, 'we want to pay ourselves interest on our Directors Loans? We say 'fine, but you do know you will have to deduct tax'. 'Oh, we didn't know that'.

You might be right about businesses you deal with, but it still isn't acceptable for them not to realise their obligations, which you sort of indicated when excusing the club acceptable

First Para:
Banks don't forget to subtract the basic rate of tax and pass it on the taxman on the interest the pay me.
Second Para:
I don't forget to declare my interest on my self assessment from the money I loaned the bank

I can see how it is confusing because the arrangement is all a bit incestuous, but still inexcusable in my book

Thanks. I'm not eligible to attend the AGM but the interview was interesting.

Clearly DA has no thought in his head about removing Saunders from his position. He also seems unable or unwilling to understand that crowds will vary according to the product being served up. He's talking about needing 7500 to sustain the club but I think we will be looking at an average 2000-2500 below this next season unless we try to entertain the crowd a bit more.

7500? Has that average gone up from the 7000 we needed under Cook to break even? If so he really doesn't get the fact that we don't pull in numbers like that on a regular basis unless we are doing extremely well, much less under a manager with Saunders track record and his style of football on offer. He really needs to slash this break even number cause we will be well short this season.

Saunders also said that he recognised that we have a defensive weakness on the left side in that, whilst Dan Jones is good at getting forward he often finds himself out of position defensively. Jones, himself, acknowledges this. Wood is a talker, has played with Jones previously, and it is hoped will help Dan defensively, and thus tighten up that side of the defence.

And, you know what, I agree with him about Jones - whether Wood is the right man for the job remains to be seen.

Chairman talking pie in the sky rubbish about needing 7500 crowds whilst serving up football that will be lucky to drag in 5000 next year.

CEO lying through his back teeth about Eoin Doyle and saying Cook was going to drop him for Gnanduillet!!!

Manager, as usual, singling out individual players for criticism to disguise his own monumental failures of management. Dan Jones has been one of our better players this season. Disgraceful management (And Wood looks rubbish).

Re your reply to me about Doyle, I've no need to argue. facts are facts. We sold our only playable striker, in what had been our best season for 30 years, when we could have cashed in on him at the end of the season.

What a shambles.

Well actually with no player sales even 7500 would be some way short of a break even figure. This is where my concern comes from because a 7000 average leads to a c.£1m operational loss (excl player sales) so a 5000 average would (assuming an average of £20 per person per game) lead to an additional £940k shortfall.

Thank you Mr Mercury for your time and a good reflection of the key points that were discussed and I'm sure that others will 'fill in the gaps' on some of the more detailed financial discussion in particular.

You mentioned the food and no-one thanked the club at the meeting, including me, but it was a nice touch for anyone who had gone from work and not had the chance to eat; for those that know me I'm not good when hungry!

There was a question regarding expenditure of £1.9m I think it was, that the accountant answered by giving an indication of the larger amounts that comprised this amount and it became clear to me that there is a lot of expenditure that, when added together, makes a big dent in the budget.

On the question of ambition Dave Allen was very clear that if someone walks in tomorrow with a cash offer of £9m they would be able to buy the club presumably after the appropriate checks have been carried out. He also said that he was putting in a further £300k this month to support the wage bill.

The £140k that was mentioned on here by Ashley Carson as 'coming out of the woodwork' was in the main money owed to HMRC; this was in respect of the tax that had been deducted from the 2.5% interest paid to directors on loans but hadn't been sent to HMRC. I can't remember what made up the remainder but the total amount of 'unexpected' expenditure had risen to around £225k since it was first mentioned on here. Reference was made to the difference in the amount of interest payments to directors (2.5%) and that paid to the Borough Council (6%); the loan to A&S Leisure it is at a rate of 5%.

It was he first time that I had heard Dean Saunders speak live and I think it went quite well for him but there were very few questions; however, he expanded and moved onto general football stuff at the club in his replies. He stated that Chris Herd had been geeing players up in training today to encourage a positive reaction tomorrow, Sam Morsy is a fantastic professional and gives his all for the club and they are trying to develop an ethos whereby youngsters coming through to the reserves, reserves coming into the first team will all know what is expected of them and therefore the transition will be easier for them.

I enjoyed it more than I thought that I would although it was quite subdued at times. I certainly never expected Dave Allen to be quoting Dean Fidler from the FC Utd. of Manchester programme!

Cheers, Paul.

I am concerned by this. Here we are talking about expenditure getting out of hand (£2m per year very loosely accounted for as 'expenditure'), and the club are putting on food for a (presumably) large attendance. Now this may well be standard at a shareholders meeting, and probably only cost a few hundred quid if it is an isolated case. However, I have worked for businesses who have a culture of this type of 'bloated' expenditure (expenses, sandwiches for meetings, first-class train travel etc. etc.). I hope that we don't have a similar 'bloated' culture at CFC. Given our growing debt, we should be seriously cutting back on non-essentials like this. I hope people can see this link between expenditure and debt!

thanks for posting the link, what a horrible interview though, so uninspiring, arrogant as ever and unrealistic to think that just because the ground is nice people should turn up, DA wants crowds of 7,500 regularly but on what's being served up there is very little chance we'll get there bar the Sheff Utd game and maybe Bradford, next season as has been stated many time 5,000 will be more like it

7500 wouldn't have sustained the club in the last 2 seasons!!! If he thinks an average of 7500 us a realistic ambition then he is massively over estimating the clubs FB base.

I hope they have not budgeted for crowds of 7500 - if they have then the accounts will be disappointing
A new hope.

Part 3
Now on to DS.
Been difficult to replace Darikwa, ONeil tried there but as yet that hasn't worked out.
Won't criticise Lee for recent errors saying he's the best keeper in the league.
Says MP Is the best fitness coach in the business, look at how few injuries were having this season, especially muscle injuries.
Still feels the defence is a work in progress, Wood brought in the give help and guidance, and feels that we are shipping silly goals rather than teams over running us. And these will soon iron themselves out.
Raglan is still very much one for the future and Wood will bring him along as well, doesn't feel centre halves mature until around 30 so Raglan has a great career in front of him.

We're shipping silly goals but this problem will iron itself out? No training to make the mistakes stop or anything like that, just let it run its course. No wonder people are concerned with him with statements like that.

No he did stress that they work on the silly mistakes in training, he was quite categoric on that, hence that's why he feels they will iron themselves out.

To be fair that is not what he says in his interviews. Far from it in fact as he says he they practice defending a lot including set plays and threatening personnel changes if things aren't corrected

Maybe that's what means by ironing out

I'm not up to speed with acounts and all that business. But aren't their plenty of tax incentives to owning a football club? Aren't we paying interest every year to Allen, whilst the loan remains outstanding?

There's a reason wealthy people buy football clubs, i'm guessing it's not for the love of the game, but maybe I'm wrong.

That reason is often that they have more money than sense. There are not plenty of tax incentives to owning a football club.

Yes he did state they train regularly on ironing out the mistakes, I think that's where he believes the consistency will come from.
