We haven't played them since have we?

They will have long memories.

They had 200 odd at Ipswich last week, York took more to Crawley for an early kick off

I pointed exactly that out on One Football Forum. York to Crawley is further too.

I've got no idea, I suppose the gravity of the trouble depends on who's telling the tale. I just remember it being an extremely lively weekend, the worst I can recall really in almost 30 years of watching town.

Which one, the first encounter or the return fixture?

Rivalry between ourselves and Mansfield? Well yeah, the fact the two towns are only fifteen or so miles apart probably means that'll always be the case.

But 'fierce'? Certainly from their side it is - infact their small band of followers develop a football version of Tourettes whenever our name is mentioned! However do our fans feel anywhere near as much animosity towards them? Really? Seriously?

Of course we want to keep them well and truly in their place, yet given they've spent most of the last twenty-odd years at least one division below us and we've repeatedly embarrassed them both on and off the pitch (Field Mill heroes Paul 'Dutch' Holland and Sam Clucas moving up to Town? Vastly superior facilities? A fanbase that dwarves theirs'?) I agree with 'Fitzy' that they're becoming little more than a novelty.

I suppose it depends whereabouts in Chesterfield you live as to who you’d consider to be our main rivals. As I was born and grew up in North Wingfield I can categorically state that Mansfield were the team I despised the most.

In all my years of going to games I don’t think I’ve taken greater satisfaction of getting a victory than when we beat Mansfield in the play offs. That extra time period was something else.
If only....

Living in Newton I agree entirely. Regardless of league status it is, for me at least, our real local derby.

Few familiar faces at the beginning of that video! I was in Spain for this game. Remember it being reported in the paper while we were out there. A weekend I'm glad I missed.

The only games Ive ever felt seriously threatened at a footie game were both vs Cardiff. The one on the video at Saltergate when I got caught up in a hailstorm of beer bottles, and the 3-3 at Ninian Park in the promotion season where walking back to the car was a hair raising experience - thank god I wasn't wearing colours that day!

They equalised in the last minute and invaded pitch, cue every Town fan exiting very quickly to station/car park.
Very scary day as I recall.
Came out of station to see a load of Police surrounding a loads of Cardiff fans who were burning a St George's cross!

Was a horrible day , throwing things over the fencing at us. A guy even climbed down the back of the stand to get behind us so he could spit on us from the top of the wall. Awful place. Good game mind you 👍🏽

and then, when they got him down, they just put him back in the home end lol

I think with the pitch invasions they were just being friendly and coming over to say hello, with no intention of kicking the living hell out of everyone at all. The PA system and all the flag waving had the entire home support wound up even before the game started

A great many town fans, certainly ex colliers, have nothing but loathing for them
A new hope.

We did, half way down the motorway before we knew it was a draw. The old and the wise. I think the first pitch invasion was enough to tell you what it was going to be like after.

If I remember rightly we had to walk through all the buses through the Police line holding folk back and then we were parked as far away as we could be in the top corner of the car park and some **** said "blend" but for the life of me I can't think who else went with us

I remember a copper waking around the Town fans urging us not to look over to our left at their fans were 'mental'

I've heard they only played Welsh music pre game and had kids with Welsh flags in front of the away yet Town fans weren't allowed to put up St George flags as the coppers said it 'incited racial hatred'.

I was in the RAF and parked in my mates pub called the Cornwall, just round the corner from the home end.
He didn't tell me it was a soul crew pub so had a right shock when I walked in but they were OK they came and collected me at the end of the game at the petrol station about 2 mins walk from the away end and my god was I happy that they did.

I will never forget when Rob Earnshaw scored the equalizer and a bloke next to me said ''THANK F FOR THAT''

was this the game we had 200 there or was this another occasion ?

I cant remember which way round if this game was after the trouble at Saltergate (what was you doing that day smig ;))

Didn't a Cardiff fan get hospitalised after getting a twatting with a fire extinguisher?

In spa lane, it started off in the toilet and just went a bit stupid, a women copper was filming it all at the window
