Interesting interview with Presley here, regarding woods.

http://www.fleetwood...eites-1-7535594

He spoke very highly about the man and his attitude to playing

Its ironic that the reason Pressley gave for his leaving is for family reasons

But their 'analysts will be working on exploiting his weakness, in behind'.

Opinions, opinions eh!

However, neither Raglan nor Hird have looked particularly comfortable on the left side in the past. Evatt might look a bit more comfortable than those two but our defence was much better balanced when we had Cooper there.

If Woods can fill the gap left when Liam left I think we should benefit from this one.

I somewhat agree with Chris, though, that we need improvement at RB and DCM yet. Whether or not this comes about through better match fitness levels for Talbot and Herd remains to be seen.

Yup that's my opinion and I've no dramas with anyone who disagrees.

I agree with the requirement to sort out DCM and RB first. I doubt any of our centre halves feel that comfortable at the moment with the lack of protection they're getting compared to last season.

Suggests its a loan with a view to a permanent?

That's exactly what I've read in to it, he talks about woods need security for his family. Yet, he's got his contract for this season from Rotherham.

Yes but dont you think Wood will be able to give us information about all their team?

I think Pressley will have been busy changing most if not all of their set piece routines all week dont you?

Presumably not rated too highly by Neil Redfearn then

And why does Evo playing stop Raglan heading the ball out to an opponent? At least when Hird plays we have someone who can find a man with his ball out.

Some obscure logic there. It doesn't. Are you suggesting that Raglan and Hird is our best combination?.

I am suggesting I see little difference as to who is playing in central defence. Until we tighten up in midfield, at full back, and stop the ball coming back at too regular intervals, we will continue to see yo yo results.

I don't get this obsession with Evatt and Raglan being the answer to our problems.

Neither do I. I've been spouting for months about the need for another dominant CH.

Hope it turns nice for you (and us) but I don't see any amount of centre halves solving our problems across the pitch.

Probably will never get tried I know but when Charlie Raglan joined us from our FA Cup opponents wasn't it said he could play at CB or midfielder?

Looking at that monster Scunthorpe had - Tom King - as their defensive midfielder I'd be tempted, at least in practice, to try Charlie there to give us a prospective team of -

Lee
Herd, Evatt, Wood, Jones
Raglan, Morsy
O'Shea, Novaks, Blake, Gardner

Subs: Chapman, Hird, Talbot, Ariyibi, Simons, O'Neil, Manni

Helps if you can distribute the ball when you're a CM

If we're going to try a centre half in midfield then it should be Hirdy. Raglan is a decent centre half but his distribution isn't anywhere near as good as Hird's; who is (rather unfairly) rotting on the bench.
Happiness is like a cake. Have too much; and you get sick of it.

Personally, I think Hird is not dominating or big enough for CB.

He has previously played defensive midfield but not had us in raptures.

Raglan can pass, not saying his passing can't improve, and is more mobile than Hird. Defensive midfield does not require a player to hit 40 yard Hollywood balls just to tidy up and keep it simple. I certainly didn't notice King having a great deal of passing ability just the capability to protect the defence.

Hird is great at reading the opposition and is decent with the ball. He's a great partner for a dominant (Evo-type) centre half and has the right attributes to play DCM
Funnily enough, last season he was much more of a threat for us at set pieces than Evo was

From what I've been told about Wood he'll be a good acquisition for us, he can play either side and has bags of experience for this level

Definitely, if we are going for a makeshift central midfielder, only one option, that is Hird
