Yes I think the replay was a 4-3 defeat

I remember that one- John Cooke scored a cracker- but wasn't it League Cup?
These go to eleven.

That John Stirk looked a character. Also, good evidence for why the 'interfering with play' part of the offside rule was changed.
These go to eleven.

Just been bored enough to work them out, missed Blyth 77, Macclesfield 92, Southend replay 01, Tranmere 03, Braintree 14, FCUM 15, all away, last home one missed 1972

I went to that Southend replay, what a tragic waste of time that was.

definitely FA, as it was used on the BBC's Road to Wembley opening titles for the rest of that season.

The low number of games is a shocking statistic when you consider it includes replays.

Hope you get a ticket can't have a record like that broken and you trying to claim having seen another Derbyshire team in the FA cup at the same ground earlier in the same season that it goes on

It's not particularly shocking. Rather depends on how many replays were counted.

If you ignore replays, over 46 years if you count "ties" rather than replays then the average number for all clubs would be between 91 and 92. A side that played all 46 years in the third tier would expect to achieve slightly better than 91 or 92 as the odds are stacked a bit in their favour. A side that played in the 4th tier could expect to achieve marginally less than 91 or 92 as the number of third tier sides that they might get to play in rounds 1 or 2 is greater than the number of non-league sidesover the 46 years (although that is a pretty small margin).

I'm on a run of 5 cup games without defeat and 12 games in total without defeat. The odds on the latter is pretty big, so I ought to be put to the top of the queue for tickets at Manchester, please.

All games counted

If playing with stats, another stat that shows our poor FA cup 20% (almost) of the games took place in just 3 seasons out of the 46

Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Remember the Portsmouth game. Town fans were moved to enclosure after coin throwing at the Portsmouth mascot led to a home fans pitch invasion. Ernie "scored" a goal ruled offside. I think I went with you Warfy!
Blackpool game included Jimmy Armfield at the back.
Stoke game had Gordon Banks I think and Terry Conroy showed us how to play football.
Blyth Spartans had us cowering under pub seats as bricks came through the window. Alan Shoulder made a name for himself that season and signed for Newcastle.
Is my memory playing tricks or is all that really true?

I recall Kev Randall showing England full back Mike Pejic how to play football

The Darlington sending off fiasco

Didn't we have three sent off?? Cooke, Hebberd and Turnbull if my memory is owt like. I also recall being stuck in the corner near the floodlights at the old Feethams ground, but could quite possibly be wrong.

The Grimsby 2-2 at the end of the 90's stands out aswell. 2 down at half time and it should have been about 5 then in the second half its like the Alamo, we get back to 2-2 and should have won it.

Yes he floated one into the far corner of the net over Gordon Banks for the equaliser.

Yep agreed stuck in the corner at darlo, didn't you have to walk down a scary little cobbled street to get to it as well?
Must have been about the only red cards John Cooke and tricky Trevor Hebberd ever got.

yep thats the one , i thumbed it once and got there early and had a look round , passing the cricket ground inside , walked back only to be faced by at least 10 or more darlo fans boot boys too , thought no point in running so had to walk right thru the middle that was hairy

Wasn't cookes after the final whistle, too?

Overriding memory of that day for me was a very drunk Ronnie Cox ( even by his standards!) singing along to Rose Royce's Car Wash at HT but replacing the word car with the word pig!!

One was certainly after the whistle, not sure who, also didn't one town fan climb the fence onto the pitch and try to encourage a mass invasion?

The man for this thread is clarevoyant he's not missed a town FA cup tie since 1968 if I remember correctly.

Dont know if it was the same match but I think I saw Keegan play for Scunny against us at the Old Show Ground. We had a young keeper make his debut that day, could have been Osborne in for Humphreys?? My memory sometimes play tricks on me...
