I agree that him doing the after dinner speaking on Friday wouldn't effect him doing his job on the Saturday , I don't think it would anyone. To be honest it's non of our business what he does away from his job here. He's a poor manager with a poor record tho , with or without his other commitments.

In the most part,I agree, Moondog. I don't think it'd affect his performance as a manager if he gave after dinner speeches or did a bit of punditry. Fingers in pies is all well and good and I do believe that he's as committed to the CFC pie as any others he may have his digits in. It does however fill me with rancour that the pie on my table has a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste of shiat.

The way I see it, if he's travelling all that distance to do these after dinner speeches, then travelling home, then to the ground pretty early the next morning can't do well for concentration the next day can it? Yes he may have formations etc organised, but as for effective decision making during a match whilst tired can't be easy, surely?!

I agree with that up to a point, but what if his actions aren't playing very well with the players? (I don't know that there is an issue there, by the way). I have been reading quite a lot of The Secret Footballer recently; footballers don't need much to lose faith in what the manager does and doesn't do. If they are looking at DS spending a fair bit of time on extra curricular stuff, and start grumbling to each other about it, there's a good chance there will be a knock-on effect in the effort they put in for him.

If we were performing Saunders' extra-curriculum duties would be irrelevant. That's why Cook got away with it for so long.

However we're not performing - infact it's been increasingly clueless and embarrassing.

As a result you'd like to think Saunders would clear his diary and give at least the impression of being one hundred percent focussed and committed.

Unfortunately being two hundred-plus miles away on the evening before a potentially vital game will be just another of the growing number of sticks with which fans can so easily beat him with.

Just to play Devils advocate, is Saunders to blame?? He is being offered x amount of pound notes to basically rock up at a 'do', enjoy a free feed and then talk to a room full of goggle-eyed folk about how good he was / is with the blessing of his current employers. Forget all the loyalty rubbish, Deano's not got any towards our club. If Chesterfield FC are ok with him doing it, of course he's going to do it and I probably can't blame him.

He might well be a decent after dinner speaker, the problem is he is dog **** as a football manager and that's the only real issue I have.
