Lionel Messi is a natural footballer

Perfectly valid statement, you cannot learn some of the stuff he can do, it comes naturally to him

Quite. CPS won't agree though it seems.

Exactly. Messi, Ronaldo, Robben,Hazzard there are quite a few examples of natural footballer. Someone who has skills you cannot teach or a footballing brain which is 3-4 moves ahead of the game
Examples of a non natural footballer: (no disrespect) Andy Morris, Cameron Jarome, Calvin Andrew and a fair few others.
Now I know these examples are one end of the spectrum to another, but that's also a good point too.
The "natural footballer" will play at the top level because they are that good, hence SC move further up the footballing pyramid.

(And it came from a Mansfield fan- of course it was stupid)

I hope you're not adding to your list of stalkers! I could get jealous.

I wonder if there is a collective name for a group of stalkers, maybe has a mark of respect "a vale" (of stalkers) would be apt.

No because (in my opinion) it's nonsense.
Messi is of course simply better, not necessarily more natural.

Natural footballer ,
The ability to play football from a young age which only needs nurturing, not (with respect) a hoofer under pressure, a headless chicken,
You know the sort, we had about 20 in the squad apart from SC and To be fair Matt green had and has the ability to play.

Watched a bit of kids game a few weeks back -7 year olds I guess - they were playing on the next pitch to my 12 year old grandson. I came home and mentioned to my wife about this kid who we know just slightly as his mother is an acquaintance. My very words to her were "he's a natural". He just knew where to run, when to run, what to do with it - in other words a football brain way beyond his age and the ability to go with it.

I know what you mean mate - CPS thinks everything can be taught - it can't.

Of course I don't.
There are at any one time over 2000 professional footballers in England.
They will all have natural ability and 'talent'.
So will the 20,000 boys in Academies at present,
So will the other 30,000 released recently from Academies to most people (scouts and coaches etc).

Accepted. But 'natural footballer ' was a graphic description to me of Clucas - I knew exactly what he meant - the polar opposite of 'hoofer' or 'clogger' and they are in the professional game as well and you could say have some ability and talent.

You get a lot of footballers who have all of the physical attributes required to succeed but have to work hard on their positioning/awareness/technique etc. These are good, often superb footballers, but not 'natural footballers'.

To me a 'natural footballer' has the innate ability to spot the best option 99% of the time and the technical ability to carry out this option whether this be a long pass, short pass, shot on target etc. Natural footballers often don't have the greatest physiques for football (Sam would be a case in point).

Its like when you were at school - some kids had to swot all night to get their grades and some could just turn up and get them.

They all are of course, he chose to single rooney out as a natural footballer at that time. Clearly there is such a thing as a natural footballer, rooney is one of many examples.

So Fergie was talking about all his team then.

So far we have established that Messi , Rooney and Sam Clucas are natural footballers. Not sure about any players in between Barcelona's Messi and Chesterfield's Clucas though?

Oh dear. I'm just arguing that there is such a thing as a natural footballer and that "natural footballer" isn't a stupid statement.

Strange that there's no mention of it on any Hull City forum or official website about Clucas,,unless I've missed something.

report today in hull mail;

STEVE Bruce says he envisages Ryan Taylor and Sam Clucas being Hull City players within the next 48 hours.

Former Newcastle United star Taylor, 30, is currently in Austria with the Tigers.

He sat out yesterday's 0-0 draw with Hannover 96, but is expected to feature on Wednesday against Al-Ain, once his deal goes through.

He could be joined in the City side by 24-year-old Clucas, who was set to fly to City's Austrian base today for a medical ahead of a proposed £1.3m switch from Chesterfield.

I must admit the statement natural footballer is absolutely meaningless, as nothing constitutes what the criteria for being natural is, id go as far as saying that if there was such a thing as a hypothetical natural footballer then Cluclas would be a terrible example as surely the first and most important criteria on the hypothetical list would be to able to move the ball with purpose with both feet.It is imo a piece of lazy language often used but without any substance.
