I'll be a bit careful here as I've only heard one side of the story, but I just came back from an ex-Man U players' dinner (not my scene but I couldn't turn it down) and Turner did not turn up as promised "because he's looking for a new manager" but I know someone close to Turner who is very sympathetic to our Chief Exec's position as, in his words, Cook has been behaving like a **** for a while now and apparently suddenly unexpectedly came along with his agent, a couple of weeks prior to the end of the regular season, announcing that he was off. I'm told Turner and co were by now heartily sick of Cook- I don't know the details as as far as I was concerned, we'd never had a better boss.

I also had the pleasure of discussing Old Trafford 97 with Robson- interesting to hear him absolutely slate Elleray for sending off Kinder- he evidently still feels that Elleray did his Boro side that day, and had a few choice descriptions for our favourite schoolmaster.

He was squealing like a stuffed pig that day

Kinder should've got a straight red for pulling Davies back never mind the two yellows, one of them Hignett (I think) should have walked for two shocking tackles each side of half time, the goalie could have gone when Bruno went over him and their penalty was a travesty. There was something else I can't remember?

Robson is an absolute cuno

Also someone close to Turner and he's is sympathetic, well blow me down!!!

Yes! I thought I was the only one who remembers that, no-one else seems to mention it. He definitely should have gone - terrible challenges, both of them!

Was this ex Man Utd player dinner last night? If so how can Turner be looking for a manager with an announcement promised for noon today??

it was, the dirty bounder

for Robson to attach any blame to Ellery that day shows what an absolute moron the bloke is

Ellery may as well had a red shirt on

still never seen a goal disallowed for a foul that happened after the ball went in ever again

This pretty well matches up with my understanding from a couple of weeks ago to which I alluded in a thread in which I predicted that the truth would out in time (it's not been long before it's started to appear) and that, when it did, many Spireites would be both surprised and disappointed.

Disliked Robson ever since that day. From what you've said no reason to change that stance.

Why don't you actually say what you know?

It was last night. Turner wasn't there but the chap talking about CFC to me was a mate of his and firmly sympathetic to him, yes, of course. He tells me CT was due to attend but didn't cos he was involved in the process of looking for a new manager, so perhaps he meant 'appointing a new manager', which seems fair as it ties in with the apparent haste with which the new man is supposedly coming in.

Re Cook seems clear now he was absolutely fuming about the sale of Doyle. as we we're, but shamefully towed the party line publicly in return for.new contract with the club keeping up the pretence until the bitter end. You can understand his frustration after being denied funds pre season then he brings in a wedge with the sale of Cooper and Doyle and is given only a fraction of it in return, which brings us back to the financial management of the club that has still to be explained

Robson had a good Gazza story: he said Gazza had not long been at Lazio when he rang Robson at six in the morning and started going on about how the training had involved lots of running, lunch and then a siesta. Gazza found himself sharing with an Italian who immediately stripped off, lay down and went spark out for his siesta. Gazza apparently says he was sitting there, still buzzing, looking at his new team mate thinking how lucky he was to be able to just switch off like that. Gazza gets bored, lights a fag, gets more bored, lights the Italian's pubes with his fag...... and then wondered why none of the Italians will share a room with him after that.
