Easier said than done, we have a management team producing players to sell on. Cook knew his brief in this respect and has delivered. The defecit is the big stumbling block in all of this but has to be addressed - if you can be sure someone else can come in a carry every thing forward in a similar vein then you have no problem.

The problem is if this goes pear shaped and change is necessary again.

It's not Mitch that is leaving (yet). It's not the back room team that improves these players that is leaving (yet). It's not the tactical mastermind that is leaving (yet). It's not the fitness guru that is leaving (yet). It's not the man with the top down view on the whole scene that is leaving (yet). It's the Motivator. So we have to get another motivator.

That's pretty much where I am, except I think we'll get relegated next season wherever we are :(

And I keep getting attacked for saying this.

Let's examine what we know.

Chris Turner appeared on Biggs' talk show and openly discussed our manager - who'd recently signed a contract extension - leaving. Which was either very stupid or working to an agenda. Meanwhile Biggs, a journalist close to high profile individuals at the Proact, even went to the extent of publicising a figure Cook might be recruited for on twitter. Next the Portsmouth press printed an interview by Turner echoing what he'd previously said. Though it's not clear if he'd repeated himself to them or they'd lifted his words from the Biggs thing. Then came Pompey's official approach, and I simply cannot believe they'd have made it at such an inappropriate juncture unless they had a very good idea they'd get their man.

And now we have Biggs pretty much agreeing Cook's off both on camera and social media.

So how do we interpret all this? Well I reckon it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Cook became so frustrated by what he views as a lack of support he asked his agent to peddle his availability, perhaps to the point of saying he'd quit if necessary. Hence Pompey's interest. Realising this - word gets around in football - Turner and Co sought to get in front of things, putting a CFC sympathetic spin on any exit (wanted Paul to stay but couldn't stand in his way/going to a bigger club) whilst ensuring CFC receive as much compensation as possible.

Probably about right. There's little doubt now that things have been initiated from Cooks end, and he must have been tipped the wink by Pompey that the job was his if he wanted it, hence his tumbling odds before Pompey made an approach (lots of his drinking buddies will have made a bundle on this).

Let's be honest here Portsmouth were interested before the interview on Sheffield live TV.

Portsmouth had received 70 - 80 viable applications these were collated and distributed to the directors to make their shortlists (this was prior to the interview). Cook headed that shortlist of 5. Following the board meeting where it was discussed the approach was made (possibly along with other approaches).

Martin Allen is another of the five. The rest remain unknown.

The Portsmouth approach is because cook is the man we want not because your CEO was prostituting him out.

This is what I'm saying, Cookie or his agent has touted himself to you. You've tipped him the wink, gone through due process with lots of spiel about 70 applicants, then shock horror come to the conclusion that he is the man you want.

Does the fact that Pompey dont seem to have made an appointment yet have any significance?

Surely there are other candidates 60 or 70 apparantley lol that could do the job?

They seem to be waiting for someone I wonder who :windup

Cook is one of the best managers in the two bottom Leagues and his record proves it. He is probably coveted by more than Portsmouth and you have been clever enough to get in first - apparently Cook's agent is inside the tent at Portsmouth. The problem,of course, with your version is that it is difficult to accept for some of our fans who prefer to believe that this has all been instigated by the whipping boy, Chris Turner - who does not make the big calls at our club anyway.

Such a drama queen. You've basically sold off half the squad there.

Theres no way that Roberts will leave. He loves it here and is 31 now. Another Lester situation.

Assume Cook goes to pompey. he gets his agent to chat informally with GR. Lets say he discusses whether GR might be interested in a move to the south coast - on the same terms, for 3 years. You think he would stay at CFC>

A new hope.

I already said that scenario the other day. Personally I do and I doubt we'd stand in his way as it would be another top earner off the books are far as our owners were concerned.

I wouldn't go so fat as relegation, but more lower midtable.

Cook will leave.....Morsey will be hawked around in a manner even less subtle than Doyle was, he is approaching his final year and the club wont want to lose out on any fee.....Clucas the same,ie, an asset to be realised and probably Dave as well.

I have no problem at all with DA wanting his money back, but he has to re invest some of the transfer fees into the squad. But probably wont.

A new hope.
