Quite. His concern will be managing his exit at this end if he's decided to go. Pompey fans won't be a concern at all.

No, doing your job as a football manager encapsulates more than the training ground and 15:00 on a Saturday.

Would you be happier if I said he was also trying not to hack of chesterfield fc and their fans?

If he has decided to join us it wouldn't make sense to hack your new customers off before you even begin would it?

I suppose if he said ..they're a dirty grubby club with the morals of gutter snipes, as true as it may be, then that might hack them off..otherwise they'd be salivating that a massive club like themselves could take a manager from a club at will , even one in a higher division..either way we'll see.

Distancing himself from our job could make things difficult if he then turned up as gaffer. If you approached a manager who said he wasn't interested blah blah blah and he then turns up what do you think?

His hearts not in it? We must have laid him loads to change his mind? How can we trust a word this guy says?

The answers he has given about our approach have been very diplomatic towards to both clubs. He'd make a good politician.

His only answer, in my opinion, should have been, 'I will not speak to or about any club until our season ends' and left it at that.

It sure is, leaves a bad taste when he only signed a new deal in February fully aware of budget restraints, after selling Doyle and not getting any of the proceeds back into the playing budget. He wasn't looking very ambitious then, now of course he realises his stock has risen as we've made the play offs with the football world realising we weren't a one man team

Just one question IF its a done deal and I haven't a clue one way or the other How if Chris Turner has denied Portsmouth permission to talk to him can that possibly be true? Maybe its time for everyone to stop pretending they know something and let him get on with our chance of getting Championship football If he walks after that then good luck to him and thank you.

There are no indications that his own remuneration is an issue. I think you are over-simplifying it on this occasion.

I happen to know that Sheridan was on £120k. I would hazard a guess that PC has perhaps just overtaken him and in the process doubled his money over 3 years. I know that at one point CT was very embarrassed by PC's pay and he was very nervous at the thought of him being poached. Again, pure guesswork, but that would still put him miles behind top L1 and Portsmouth money. Another player or another £50k for PC?. I know what I would do.

Through his agent, remember how the Doyle sale went (same agent) as soon as our valuation was met he was on his way for the medical and to sign, no faffing about discussing terms (they had been sorted). This is not to say I tnink it's a done deal just that all Turner's words mean is come up with the asking price, on this occasion the buy out clause

This whole business has been very poorly handled. Bits of information coming out here and there and some of it totally contradictory. In the absence of clear and precise statements coming from the club,it is small wonder that people resort to speculation and form their own conclusions. This should have been a simple and straightforward matter from day one. With Cook on contract and in the absence of any clauses, the club should have issued a statement saying he is not leaving either now or at any time in the near future. All we got was CT saying "we don,t want him to leave". That is neither here nor there and far from ending speculation has merely served to increase it.

If Cook does have clauses in his contract (which cannot be the case if the club is telling the truth and have really refused Pompey permission to talk to him)then CT should come out and say so. That wouldn,t necessarily mean he is leaving, only that he can talk to other clubs.

Cook is far from blameless himself,as he goes round the highways and byways avoiding questions or answering them in such a way as to leave people still scratching their heads and wondering. Irrespective of where people may stand on the subject, the most important thing is the team and the effect all this may be having on them.It cannot be a healthy situation either knowing or suspecting your manager is about to jump ship and at the very least will take minds off the job in hand. If he is leaving then to my mind he should do it now and allow Richardson to take command. Those who say he has earned the right to see the season out are forgetting this is a situation that Cook is partly responsible for himself. If he is not leaving he should come out now and say as much and put an end to this tiresome speculation.

Turner has openly said without even being asked that there is a buy out clause

Nowhere has it been said that Pompy have offered us money for Cook, they just asked for permission to talk to him, which we turned down. Turner has said live on TV that Cook has a buy out clause.
FWIW I think we will now not hear anything until at least 2 weeks tomorrow.

As I see it Moondog,a buyout clause would be linked to compensation payments as opposed to allowing clubs the right to approach him. Surely you cannot have a situation where a club can just walk through the door, plonk some cash on the table and walk away with your manager. If that,s the case then clearly a contract isn,t worth the paper it,s written on. Cook was more than happy to extend his deal back in February, knowing the various financial constraints he would be working under,so to come out now and suggest the club has to match his own ambitions is hitting a bit below the belt.
