Much has been made on this board over the last season about the clubs playing budget, right from the Higden saga to recent events. Is the budget now a stalking horse?..
For example rumours today, yes that word again rumours , are that maybe there could be a slight increase next season even if we stay in L1, also rumours again that the media frenzy over the Pompey bid as alerted the likes of Wigan, Coventry and even our Dee Dah pals to the possibility of Cooks departure. Now most would accept our budget is around 1.5-1.8 million and given our club size we couldn't push the boat out at this level too much more before it becomes do or die, even suicidal. But even if we near the limits of realistic improvement would that now be enough for Cook?
Obviously his stock has risen astronomically these last few months, maybe to a point where regardless what DA and CT do in an attempt to keep him it just won't happen...
Sadly it would appear that Cooks success as gone to everybody's head, his and ours and departure is now inevitable...
But remember, not only Paul Cook teams play good football, not only CFC have two cracking central midfielders, not only CFC have a good scouting network... If he goes, just like in boxing, there's always somebody better around the corner...until of course they P..155 off as well! ^_^

No fondation at all.

I'd leave French builders out of this though.

Fish - you are spot on.

What will be will be but why, oh why, are so many people so eager to start rumours rather than look on the bright side of what has been achieved?

We are in the play-offs - just try and enjoy it.

Not the rumour I heard, a smallish rise in budget if we are in league 1, budget nearly doubled if we go up.

Herein lies the problem. It's all rumour, everyone has a source who knows what the truth is. Sometimes I miss pre Internet days when we knew nothing about anything.

Seems like some people think it's impossible to be having a good time and enjoying life as a spireite whilst also being conscious of some of the more disquietening things going on at the club.

Going 'lalalalala we're in the playoffs I can't hear you!' doesn't achieve anything, and neither does speculating about the unknown but this is a football forum - it's for discussion about issues around our club. This may be a time of great success for the club but let's not deny that there are also issues that people WILL talk about. It can't be helped.
I just don't know what I'm supposed to be

If that is true then what would happen if we were to come straight back down?
We obviously can't afford a £3m budget in this league, no players are gonna sign for us on one year rolling contracts all the time, are players going to sign a contract that pays them 50% less if we get relegated?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Contracts negotiated and written in that wages reduce in the event of relegation, it's more common place now.
"one day, we shall return" (edit - and so we did).

Also premier clubs might be more willing to loan players if they are going to get 1st team championship football. A couple of season long loans
A new hope.

They have signed them at Hull.

People might tae the chance to play in the Championship to have it on their CV as they have done at Hull to play in the prem.
