Manager Paul Cook says that when teams are successful it's inevitable that players and staff will be wanted by other clubs.

SPIREITES: Cook on the Portsmouth interest: "I've always been happy being Chesterfield's manager. But you'll never stop it." #‎PeakFM

Cook says he's had the best two and half years of his life at Chesterfield and is proud to manage the club.

SPIREITES: Cook hasn't chosen to comment on the timing of their approach. This has been the first approach made to him since joining.

Like,

Why have you turned Pompey down?

Answer, Chris has promised I can keep a large proportion of the Doyle transfer fee (for squad strengthening, not my bar bill)
Accentuate th Positive, eliminate the negative

Cause he's likely to say that in a Town press conference before a crucial play off deciding game against the league leaders. Not saying he is but no manager would ever say something like that in these circumstances
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

Asked if he was still going to be #chesterfieldfc manager next season, PC said: "Some time along the line my loyalty will get tested."

PC: "This can't be termed a long term project because if we keep being successful we are going to run out of money."

And he's right, unless the playing/staffing budgets increase along with the success then you're on a hiding to nothing...

Translated as "I feel my loyalty is already being tested by the refusal to sanction a competitive budget, I've been told we can't afford to go up so what's the point"?

Which was very evident at the Bridge Inn Q&A session. Very frustrated at missing out on players who would improve the squad, if he's been advised that next year will be more of the same then you can't blame hm for looking elsewhere

Shorter version on the Spireites player interview conducted by Ian (club employee) as opposed to Phil T, just making you can't stop interest point, where the subject then quickly moved onto the match

Call me stupid but I still don't get why being successful = no money though. Surely promotion to the championship does not inherently cost us more money to run the club unless we splurge on transfer fees/big wages? I know the bonuses knee-capped us last season (made no money from Paintpot trophy etc). Is this why we can't afford to go up? Forced to give the players massive promotion bonuses and pay rises that would cripple us next season?
Just so disappointing that this week should be a celebration of everything it means being a Chesterfield fan but seems increasingly like the reality is that we're still a tin-pot club with tin-pot ideas. Easy to see where Phil's words came from as it seems he presumably heard whispers of all this a few days before most.
As said in another thread, I'm starting to wonder why we bothered moving from Saltergate if the new ground comes with the same limitations as the old one just with much higher costs.

Use it to wipe off debt and add in some higher wages = can't afford it.

Didn't Yeovil make a loss in their foray into the championship though?
