I find it puzzling that he would have turned down £1200 a week anywhere to be honest, particularly as he was out of contract. If that were me I would have ripped their hand off, unless he was promised a decent contract with us which has subsequently not materialised. A bird in the hand and financial security has to be a driver for anyone in a career that only lasts for 15 years or so I would have thought.

Still he's gone and that's that but I am sceptical that we will find anyone of a similar quality for £500 a week!

I also agree that Turners comments were undignified and stupid in the extreme, but then again he's not exactly covering himself in glory at the minute......I hope we're not paying him more than £500 a week!!!! Posted Image

I think he turned the £1,200 offer down because we had offered more last season prior to his move to Plymouth and he was hopeful something close would materialise.

It is unusual to say the least for non contract terms to extend beyond a trial but come September we had him by the short and curlies as he couldn't sign for anyone else

There's always two sides to every story but if he was after wages similar to the 10th squad member, I think that's not being greedy. I feel uncomfortable with CTs comments on the official website; it's unprofessional. Likewise, if true, CT shouldn't be bantering with the players in his position; it leaves him open to accusation. Maybe the players could get away with laughing about working for Jacksons but I bet some of them felt Boco was too good to be effectively part time.

Forgive my ignorance but what credentials does CT have for the position Chief Executive Officer?

There is, indeed, two sides to every story.

I am amazed how long this thread is on the basis of "rumour".

Facts are that Boco arrived at CFC having had all summer to find an alternative club - but didn't.

He arrived after CFC's budget had been taken up and agreed to non-contract terms - he had played for PC before and this arrangement seemed suitable for both parties whilst under such an agreement it was always likely that it would come to an abrupt end.

When played, Boco worked hard, no doubt, but was poor when presented with goal-scoring chances and we need better if we are going to go forward.

Just one question - how long does it take to get a work permit in India?

£500 a week is of course a decent enough wage but what I guess he was wanting was security?
A footballers life is very fickle, very stressful and nomadic, often lonely.

Don't know Boco's circumstances at all (married etc) but I guess most of us at 29 would want to know that they will be getting an income in a few months or years time.

Without going into the gossiping too much about players wages in surprised that Cookie has said ^ that we pay £3k a week for players.
If so we are a very generous payer in the bottom 2 leagues.
Barry Hearn interestingly yesterday was taking about Orient and saying he can't imagine the day Orient pay £2k a week for a player and that they never got near it in his tenure.
Dag Redbridge and Stevenage have salary caps of £1k a week.
(Which will be in excess of £52k a year-an excellent salary in anyone's eyes)!

If you want the cream of the crop you've got to pay. For a player of Roberts' level, 3.1k p/w is value for money I'd say.

Re. highlighted bit, that's funny considering they're paying not far off 10k p/w for Henderson (according to a couple of Orient fans I've spoken to, anyway) and a load of money for Dossena etc.

Or the replay

Not quite true mate, I've known a few players play around the London area & you'd be surprised what they are on! A few years back when ex-premier league players like Sheringham, Cottee etc moved to clubs in & around the London area as they could provide the 'London' standard of living...I think Cottee was at Barnet & Sheringham at Colchester?
With regards to Leyton Orient, Henderson is on £8.5k/week

Can't conment on every club but those 2 I do know.
(And no one at Orient is on over £2k - basic at least)

I very much doubt many Chanpionshio teams pay £8.5k a week apart from the bigger ones. Orient certainly don't pay anything like £8.5

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously, like visas, it will depend on how much cash you are willing to bung at it and/or who you have in your contacts.

I suspect if you went over to Leyton Orient's forum and suggested they have nobody on >2k p/w you'd get laughed off it.

Dean Cox, Lisbie, Mooney, McAnuff, Henderson, Dagnall, Dossena, Plasmati - you're telling me none of those are on >2k p/w living in London, a City which provides the highest-paying wages in the UK? No chance.

I'd suggest Orient's forum has as much rubbish on it as in most forums!
Don't believe all you read in the papers or in forums.
They have a very rigid wage structure.

Lot has changed at Orient since Hearn moved on and the Italian owner has taken over. They will be paying a shed load to some of the players now...way above £2k a week.

I don't doubt they used to. I highly doubt they still do.

If true, Boco was worth more that £500 basic per week. Good luck to him in India; football is a very short career.

Was he?

What was he going to get for appearances, win bonuses etc and how did this improve his basic?

How does that compare to what you are earning?

How come a Plymouth fan knows so much about CFC wages structure - does he prepare the payroll?

If there were other English Clubs interested, as quoted, what were they prepared to pay and why didn't Boco speak to them first rather than going to India?

Is the Plymouth fan a little hurt because Boco has let him down, as well, by going to India?

In a peverse way it's quite funny watching him constantly mess up in pretty much every area possible. I wonder what his next trick will be.

Well, he could always start posting on here as 'edmonds 201'. That way you wouldn't know who he was so you'd believe every word he said.

Well Chris Turner did say Boco has let the club down which is unprofessional and stupid, much like the majority of things he says. That's nothing to do with Mr. Edmonds.

He didn't say he had let the club down,

He said: "I feel that Romy has let Paul Cook down as he gave him an opportunity to play first-team football when nobody wanted him. Contract offers were made to him, but he decided to turn them down.

"No player is bigger than the club, however, so we move on and wish Romy all the best for the future."

My bad on the wording but the point still stands - absolutely needless thing to say.

Orient are apparently playing 4x a week that for that lump of a centre forward who they signed in the summer.

And looking at their league position - is that where paying more than any other club would for a player get you?

Typically 14 days but can be shortened at the discretion of India high Commission

I assume that's the British experience. I don't know, but he might have an Indian parent or wife.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
