I don't understand the preoccupation with pre-contracts in Ryan's case?

Most players who decide not to resign when their contracts are up wait and see what is available.

Apart from no news of a contract extension, is there a rumour regarding his departure?

Wouldn't surprise me if he wanted a move closer to home, from his tweets clearly does not enjoy the commuting he does

Usually whoevers interviews cook from radio sheff tweets asking if there's any questions we'd like asked, if I see one today I'll ask him to ask about Ryan's contract situation

....well, there's a statement from PC that he doesn't want any of his best players to be in an out of contract position. No rumour mongerer worth his salt would ever pass up the opportunity to invert that logic and conclude that he doesn't think Jimmy (or Armand) is one of his best players.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

No, a player in the last 6 months of his deal is free to talk to any club regarding a contract from end of his current one, and is free to sign a pre contracts agreement.

It's hardly ever publicised as it would be undermine the club and the player for the rest of the season

Edit: "The Bosman ruling meant that players could move to a new club at the end of their contract without their old club receiving a fee. Players can now agree a pre-contract with another club for a free transfer if the players' contract with their existing club has six months or less remaining."

Must have changed in recent years then because initially it was only possible to sign pre contracts with a club under a different FA as we did with Doyle. Players like Mcmanaman going to Real Madrid etc.

Whilst we saw pre contracts being signed such as us with Rob Page, Montrose etc as we saw they can soon be broken and also tend not to happen until towards the end of the season.

Is this like a "heads of a agreement"? My pal works in rugby, and they have the same thing happening, although only on an agreement within the 12 premiership clubs, that you can only talk to players in the final 6 months of their current deal. The heads of agreement is saying "I will sign a full contract with you after my current one expires". My pal's club had a player renege on a heads of agreement with another premiership club and stay at that club for another 3 years. In some cases, with specific clauses included to the benefit of player or new club, they're not worth the paper they're written on.

This doesn't stop the French top 14 clubs talking to English players in the final year of their contract.

To be honest i've no idea about the legalities of it all....i just remember that we signed Montrose on pre contract and he still ended up at Wycombe. I think that was more down to the fact it was Richardson that signed him then Sheridan took over, Montrose decided otherwise after that and Sheridan said if he doesnt want to be here then we dont want him and agreed to rip up the pre contract.

I know they do something in cricket where you state your intention to talk to a player when their contract is coming up and the rugby thing sounds similar.

Armand has not proved he is one of our best players. He hasn't had that many starts, and when he has started he has been inconsistent.
A new hope.
