Being a big cricketer and a bowler this one has got me more than most of the tragic sporting incidents that happen. Its a horrible accident that has not only led to the loss of a promising batsman but the bowler now needs all the support available to help him come to terms with what has happened.

It wouldn't surprise me if the bowler never played again.

Devastating news. A young man that played the game, IMO , the way people want it to be played. Yet again sport, and life, are put firmly into context. Sad, sad day. RIP Phil Hughes.

 No doubt they'll be a big review of helmet design with protection of the rear neck region being added.
Shocking to hear about a guy passing away whilst playing a game he loved.Agree, the bowler in question will need all the support he can get.

From what i can gather Hughes was wearing the 2013 helmet but even the newer design for 2014 wouldnt really have helped. As far as going forward i'm not sure how feasible it is to cover the area where Hughes suffered the blow and it not impede your stance etc. I'm sure it will be looked at but i'm not sure we'll see many massive changes in how they are designed.

A sad day for cricket, and for sport lovers in general. Phil Hughes was an exciting player and will be a sad loss to cricket worldwide. RIP Phil.

A talented batsman, truly shocking.

Brought me to tears hearing the news. Watching the video of the delivery is sickening, collapsing face first you could just see how serious it was.

RIP Philip, a great loss to cricket and the world of sport in general.
Mug?? Being wrong never gets boring!

 They'll become something akin to "Darth Vader" with a protective collar covering the neck 360 degrees.Yes it was a freak accident but players shouldn't die playing their sport so something will change.

Saw this was getting a large positive response on the Yeovil Town forum and was wondering what people's opinions would be of doing something similar?

"I know it's a football match not a cricket match tomorrow but what's everyone's opinion on a round of applause on 63 minutes as a mark of respect to Phillip Hughes"
I just don't know what I'm supposed to be
