They could have offered him a contract on a lower wage, as we did for Richards. They chose not to.

If he thinks he can get a stellar contract at 4st overweight and 32 years old with 7 goals to his name last year then good luck to him.

If he was on the reported 5.5K a week (or whatever it was) he was hardly going to accept 1K a week from them was he? And no disrespect to Parkin, but that's probably all he's worth, but for that sort of money there's a lot of teams in the bottom two leagues that would get good value for money from him, but no one is going to get into a wage war to try and sign him that's for sure. He's a bit part player who'd do a job, no more, no less.

Seems to me that someone is playing games.

Spot on. Message is that we can't afford you, so drop your demands and sign for less. I don't see anything in DA's statement that suggests that there will be no signings though. That said, the Club's progress is dictated by its players and the Management Team. Our problem, unless someone can go through a list and explain to me what they all do, is that we have a Management Team that is sizeably larger than the playing staff and may well cost us more in salaries.

Well there has to be seeing as we would only just fill the bench with the current squad

Really, these are good times to what us as Spireites have endured over many years, we have been spoilt over the last four or five seasons people should realize that.

Wembley visits have been a bonus for sure but I'm not sure we have been spoiled. 2 promotions yes, but one was created by relegation. This club has I think played in the third tier for most of the past 40 years so playing 4th tier is always a relative low.

14. I understand that all the oldies have seen far worse but I'm making a point that it's bad for the modern era so to speak.
I apologise for not being as old as you lot.

Less than fourteen years ago the club nearly went.

My thoughts entirely.

Parkins a good old fashioned centre forward Worth a year to show defenders we are not there to be knocked off the ball

A fantastic new ground with superb facilities to give us a great matchday experience for a club our size, plus two Wembley visits plus two championships over the last four seasons, I would say that is being spoiled.

You can ask Big Al yourself now. He also said that Jay O would be our new striker with Doyle if nobody gets brought in which looked extremely likely.

I read a comment on one of the numerous thread recently saying were under-achieving.

It gob-smakced me that much I failed to reply, and now can't find it.

I'd say, in the last 5 year we've over-achieved compared to our club/town size etc.

This has seemingly ramped up the level of expectation, certainly amongst the 'new' generation and the club now have to manage that expectation.

It was only a few weeks ago that a league table of all the 92 league clubs achievement over the last four years was posted on here and we were something like 4th with only the two Manchester clubs and one other (I think) that were above us. If that's not over-achieving then I don't know what is.

In reply to sabreman:
Do you include relegation as part of the treat as, without that, we wouldnt have had the second promotion and would now be starting our 4th consecutive season playing bigger clubs in front of bigger crowds in L1

my point is, you predicted some world ending statement, yet, in reality, its little more than most of the 'thinkers' on this board predicted and certainly not the Doom & Gloom some (you!!!) would point out.
