Okay everyone. I only became a Spireite in 2007 so I missed Evatt. Could someone please tell me what he did in his first spell that was so amazing, and why he'd help Cooper and complete the defence. Thanks. Sorry for the silly question.

The only Blackpool player to play in every Premier League game a couple of seasons ago.

Bought as a central midfield lynch pin by Roy Mac, really good footballer but was way too slow to play there, moved into defence where is ability to play football made him a different class.

Was brought in as a midfielder and was average, moved to center back and was a class above. Seem to remember a couple of player of the year awards??

I think captain too

we have had some good centre backs over the years: breckin, blathers, dyche, mark Williams to name a few but I always thought evatt was the best of the bunch. Pretty much an all rounder: good in the air and not frightened to get stuck in, calm on the ball and a natural leader. I cant believe this is on the cards, simply because I thought he would remain a championship player for the next couple of years. Lets hope it comes off.

As said, he was a great defender, but what impressed me the most about the Ian Evatt we had at Saltergate was the backbone he brought to the side, and the way he would marshal - maybe drag - the team into getting points from a game when we were behind. If he wasn't the one getting a late equaliser he'd be setting it up. He was the one who always drove us on, showed the desire and set the example to the rest of the team.

Individual moments? Obviously the Luton game, when we were getting desperate and he just took charge. I remember the Bradford away game where we were 2 down with about 10 minutes left and won 3-2 - Folan scored a couple but it was Evo winning the headers and the tackles to set them up.

A proper leader. Definitely the sort you want in the trenches with you.

A mate of mine at the Club tells me Ian Evatt has agreed terms subject to a strict medical. Apparently he sustained a very bad knee injury which lead to his release from Blackpool, however if he demonstrates fitness he'll be pulling on the royal blue of Town once more.

I hope those nob-heads that gave grief to the bloke who wrote off thousands of pounds of what he was due when leaving Town are more generous on this return.

On that subject I'm also told Cresswell signed for Fleetwood with a very heavy heart. Town was his destination of choice all along, and though we upped our offer to six figures Fleetwood's nearly two hundred grand bid - with add-ons - was simply too much to turn down.

Again I hope his reception at the Proact reflects that fact.

Can you remind me of the situation that caused this, I have vague memories of it but my mind is going a bit

Roy Mac very wise to spot that in his game as a great centre half himself I think Roy did fairly well at town on limited finances.

Roy Mac did amazingly well on pathetic resources, while still trying to play football the right way

He would have been a brilliant manager for us with "b2net/proact" finances

Never forget Evatt equalising in injury time at Brentford, when even Muggleton was up for the corner!

He left the club for better things when the club was on its knees. He was entitled to a wedge of money 50k ish and he let the club have it to help it survive. That was off the field on field he just used to put his body where it hurt
