Mark, If Cresswell had joined on 2k a week and 500 appearance money, but we paid £180k in fees as fleetwood did, overall its not far off the same in total. Whats the difference?

The difference is that we didn't sign Cresswell because we weren't (allegedly) willing to stump up £180k.

I'm not seeking to make a liar of anyone but the stuff about four grand a week is way beyond owt I've heard.

First of all it might be interesting to know that Dave Allen himself had a great deal to do with this move, apparently initiating contact and handling much of the negotiations. Then let's remember Mrs Evo is a Town lass, close to her family, so the opportunity of a three year contract at her home town club was always gonna be a strong motivator. Every married bloke knows how important it is to keep 'er indoors' happy, so a megabucks contract isn't necessarily the clincher here.

For what it's worth Ian is undergoing a medical at St George's Park today.

You have actually caused concern for me, rather than provide comfort. I do hope its Cook who wants Evatt, and not Allen ahead of Cook. We will have five central defenders, Evatt, Cooper, Edwards, Hird and Broadhurst. Seems a luxury for a club our size, or, is Cooper lined up to be sold for a big fee?

This is correct, and Evatt did say it was DA who contacted him and lead the proceedings, and that's the place he's having the medical today, I could not remember for the life of me.i also thought it was strange that when Cook walked past Evatt in the lounge he did not even acknowledge him and walked straight past with out saying a word.

To be honest I don't think Cook would mind if that was the case, it's not everyday a championship standard footballer comes rolling down to a league 2 club and shows great ambition to play for them and i'm sure Paul Cook might just be as excited as we are.

I'd also like to think Cooper would be here for years to come I sort of want him to become a club legend I just hope he gets a passion for the club that Evatt clearly has

Evatt might have lost a bit of Zip through having this bad injury, but his positional sense, and leadership skills are more than worth the risk, we have been crying out for a captain who leads by example an can motivate those around him for years, and Ian Evatt is that guy !

Does Cook strike you as someone who wouldn't be involved in wanting the player? Turner normally handles the money side of things . Apparently on this occasion it was Allen.

We would have Evatt - probably no yet fully fit, Cooper -under contract, Hird - not wanted anyway, Edwards - on loan to end of August, Broadhead - development player and unlikely to feature.

With only one of those 5 - 2 if Evatt deal goes through, it's hardly a luxury is it. oh yeah. You forgot Marty Brown too. So that's 3.

So we've had Turner bring in Mark Smith, Lormor & Humphreys, now Dave Allen's signing Evo!

Don't look for things that aren't there! He'll have done all the talking with him that needs to be done in private and won't have wanted to show his affection for him in front of you and the rest of the rubber necks! PC wants him big-time and he's coming so get used to it!

I get the distinct impression with PC and LR it's very much a Good Cop Bad Cop relationship with the players. On match days, PC is the one barking out the orders whereas LR is the one encouraging the subs coming on and congratulating the subbed players. So I really don't expect him to embrace the player when simply passing them in the lounges etc.

For what it's worth, and I appreciate it irrelevant really, the figure I heard was £10k with appearance incentives, as well as the now common win and clean sheet bonuses most of the squad have. I would t be surprise if there are promotion incentive too.

I'd totally agree with all of that! like a game of poker you are not going to show your hand and I find it shows that dave Allen is fully committed to the cause to be personally leading the negotiations. It does look to me that we have within the club a good number of individuals involved in the transfer activities who between them have a wide ranging network within the football community. This feels like a well run club at long last.

I for one can't wait to get use to it. I am really looking forward to Evatt becoming a Spireite once again, and praying today's medical goes ok, subsequently the club being able to announce the signing early next week. I apologise for reading to much into the Cook not speaking to Evatt in the lounge, and no doubt you will be right in what you have said about that situation.

This announcement would be the cream on top for this much awaited coming season, which I'm sure we are all looking forward to with the players we have signed, re signed and already at the club. We have a great squad of players and a good management team, which I'm 100% positive can lead us to a very successful season.

Undoubtedly better than plan "A". Impressed with the team as it is, this would be the proverbial "icing on the cake"

Indeed six central defenders on the payroll, including one who is 'not yet fully fit', one who we don't want but is still one of our allegedly highest paid, players. That passes my definition of 'luxury'.

But of course we don't what we don't know, but one hopes, from a financial point of view, either Hird is on his way very soon, or we are sitting on a £2M bid for Cooper.

It's too much mate for a league two club mate that's all I'm saying. And I include Cresswell if that's what he would have cost.
Spending that much on one player is a massive, massive gamble. It's how lower league clubs get themselves into serious trouble.

I doubt he is being offered the sums of money being quoted - and yes its too much money for a L2 club. But as I said, if the Cresswell transfer fee has been used to top up the salary for Evo, then great. Evo is a much much better player than Cresswell would ever be.
A new hope.
