I dont know what everybody else thought but i really enjoyed the 2nd half, you dont mind getting only a point (for what its worth i think we deserved 3) when your team play with such passion ,pace and quality. What i found strange and i have not seen many games under cook ,but it looked like i was watching a different club ,the set up of how we played was different and the loan players all added massive contributions ,i thought burton were a good side, they looked to have mirrored our formation in a bid to stifle us but probably they were deeper and zola was a lot more isolated than richards, they also relied on the widemen as their threat and both of their widemen were very good lads.Smith fortunately brought his A game to the table and had a blinder defensively and offensively,if only he had a right foot.
Nice to see randall blossom in the 2nd half,he carried the ball very well at times,im sure he has loads in the locker to keep on improving,it almost makes me wonder what sheridan did with the players to make them look so bad.Im still not convinced by hird, his distribution is absolutely desperate,id like to see how his passing stats were as he gives the ball away too much,he should imo just get it and give it simple to somebody who can play.Cooper looks a collosus and we need him to sign ,he is a proper player, big strong legged youth who looks like a young ian breckin to me,really impressed.
One other thing i noticed has tommy lee got a left foot he runs round the ball like a 5 year old to get it on his correct foot,he needs some serious kicking practice as yesterday he was shocking.

the key for me was ball retention. in the first half we gave it away too often, yet the second half that wasnt an issue and on another day we would have run out 3 or 4 one winners. when we get it on the floor, we look good - we have become a young, quick and hungry side.

Not listened to any of the post match stuff, but PC was apparently 'Furious' with our first half showing.

Whatever he said at half time, certainly resonated within the ranks, as we looked a quality side in the second half. Burton had no answer whatsoever.
If we can do that for 90 minutes I'm pretty confident that no side in the division could live with us.

Totally agree about Cooper. I commented to a mate that he reminds me of a young Brecks.
Signing him in January is an absolute must, and I think PC will definitely bring him in if Bruce is prepared to let him leave The Tigers.

1. You keep on about this. Are any of our players two footed?. Hird and Jack. Have any of our best left backs been two footed?.

2. His distribution is not at all desperate. Some of his long passes were excellent. A couple of his short ones were bad.

Yeah, I don't get the right footed comment either. Not many players in this league are competent with both of their feet.

The problem with modern day football is that probably 70% of players are one footed. What does it take to get players to practice with their bad foot?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

 Quite right too!PC's ethos is keep the ball.Too many times in the first half we gave the ball away with poor passes even when under no pressure.

Chuck in a ref intent on becomming some sort of pantomime villain, Burton players going down like swooning maidens, Jack auditioning for a Mick McManus tribute gig and that's a fair account, pal.

By the way, Richards does okay but all those balls across the box that went begging tell me he's no Ernie Moss.

Oh, and from what i'm hearing there might be good news on Cooper in the near future.

I've heard whispers too, just hope the Hull sending off yesterday doesn't lead to his recall

I'll never understand whilst they cannot change things in the first half and have to wait for half time.
God I hate this league.

I don't care how you look as long as you are effective. Does Peter Crouch look comfortable? He's very good at what he does though and definitely has an end product like our Nate.
My lad used to be a bit the same when he played full back. He'd quite often get beat, but his recovering tackle was second to none as was his tremendous ability to time sticking his foot in. Smith naturally has an art of timing a challenge no matter how unorthodox it may look and you can’t coach this (same as the apparent easy knack of scoring goals, you can’t teach it). Mark Allott was the same; folks used to get on at him for not getting stuck in, but when you can read the game 10x better than your opponent then why not do what Mark did and just wait to pick up the pieces (it was a game of chess to Mark, he just used to let them make their move and then take the ball from off them as clean as a whistle, Christ that was a real joy to watch for me, but many of our fans never got it!). Smity’s the same, just has that natural knack of timing that can’t be coached and is a joy to watch.

As Cook says... that's football! It happens and always will. The main thing is that we can now change a game of football, unlike when Sheridan was in charge.

Also, don't underestimate Burton's impressive work-rate closing absolutely everything down and unless you are super human then this isn't sustainable. Yes we really improved, but they also couldn't keep up their first half game plan.

Tee hee.
Chief Coach Bonnyman is trying to gently extract himself from his previous rather extreme view about Nat which may yet turn out to be a load of bollux.

I'm with you on this phil, as I've said on another thread Burton had sussed it as well and were happy to push him in field when he was coming forward

In 'Bonnyman's' defence though, Dave, Smith is one of a number of players enjoying a renaissance since Cook's arrival.

Times change, and we'd be daft not to change our opinions with them.

Yep, I know........but you'd have thought that an internationally renowned Chief Coach would have stated that this was a great player playing under a poor manager.

I think he's more competent than he's given credit for. Put a good ball in with his right peg yesterday and he's comfortable cutting inside. Players like Griffiths, Ridehalgh etc. were just as one footed but they never did this, Griffiths just ran down the line, gritted his teeth, got tackled and won a throw in and Ridehalgh just crossed it incessantly no matter where he was and 9 times out of 10 they were poor.

I'm looking forward to seeing Nate go forward more often under Cook, he's got attacking tendencies but somewhere down the line someone's shackled them.. maybe it was Sheridan stupidly playing Whitaker in front of him for almost all of last season (therefore meaning he had to stay back constantly) but his natural game showed in those friendlies at the start of last season which I'm pretty sure you saw ;) he basically played ahead of his winger all game.
