I remember a few years ago you used to be able to transfer from the kop to the stand for an additional £1.

Not sure why it was stopped, either rules about moving from one section of a ground to another or perhaps it was when the stand was made "all-ticket"

Anyway, does anyone know whether it's possible for a Kop Season Ticket Holder to pay a nominal amount and get a ticket for the stand?

It is and can be negotiated through Sue in the ticket office.

In advance, yes. The office has been dead helpful in the past with this kind of thing.

I've done a couple of transfers to the family stand (including one this weekend) and had a couple of weeks a few seasons ago rattling my jewelry in the centre stand after I had wrecked my ankle playing 5-a-side and didn't fancy standing up.
