I have to say I'm really shocked by the negativity on this board relating to the performance last night. Now as you most now there none as critical as me (well maybe fishi ) but it would be hypocritical of me not to give praise when I think its due.

So here goes.....

I think the starting line up by Mcfarland was spot on and would have ben the one I would have chosen, so no complaints there. For 60 minutes despite Donny having a few cood chances, which was to be expected with our junior back 4, I thought we were by far the better team and some of the football was just like the performances that got us so high in the first place. We were basically a combination of unlucky and lacking that bit of decisive cutting edge.

I honestly feel that if Chief and Hurst had the capability to stay on we would have finally got domething from the game, sadly the substitutions made us worse rather than better. Smith and Folan need to have a good look at themselves and really wonder if they have carers as professional football players.

Heath for me has to start against Southend as we cant continue with a striker who is in abject form.

The play offs, despite what Peak FM might tell you, look miles away at the minute. This may not be such a bad thing as pressure and expectation will die down now and hopefully with the pressure ceded a little this might help us build up a head of steam.

To summise their will be no complaints from me if the players and manager put a team out that plays good attacking football and loses. I will however be the first one on here if they go out with the intention of not winning from the off (4 5 1 *shudder*).

Good effort lads, more of the same please.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Perhaps we should try going back to the days before Clingan arrived when a midfield of Hall, Allott, Niven and Hurst were doing a magnificent job. We've certainly lost the goal scoring edge since then. Having said that, I agree we played some lovely stuff last night and were more than a little unlucky. You seem to have it in for Smith and Folan - both did reasonably well when they came on, which was at a time when Donny were getting the upper hand and we were beginning to struggle, not the best of times to pick up the pieces. Questioning their careers as professional footballers on the strength of that seems a little extreme.

I'm questioning it on the fact, 1 or 2 games aside, everytime they have figured they have been poor. People seem to forgive endless garbage performaces because they once had a decent game months ago.

I have deliberately refrained from posting in the immediate aftermath of a defeat, as the emotions can really cloud anyone's judgement, but I have to agree. As I trudged out of the Kop I felt we'd given it our best shot and but for a lack of a killer instinct we more than matched a pretty high-spending team.

I am realistic enough to accept our limitations, though I do voice my disapproval when we under-achieve as a result of either a lack of effort or more typically due to our manager's obsession with a certain formation that stifles not just the opposition but our own creativity. Credit where its due last night, we were very unfortunate to lose and our efforts certainly deserved more.

I'm already looking forward to Saturday and hopefully seeing exactly what Manchester United saw in Colin Heath. He should now get the chance to earn a longer contract and I hope he grabs it with both hands.

I agree it will be hard but as I say if a bit of expectation pressure has been relieved then who knows. We need to get the teams above us looking over their shoulder a bit more.

Endless garbage performances? They rarely get a full game and when they do ( Folan at Hartlepool, Smith against Bradford ) they do pretty well. Indeed, in terms of minutes spent on the pitch, Smith is probably our leading goalscorer. They aren't bad players - they just take the flak when everyone is disappointed by a bad result, and it's totally counter-productive. They need encouragement - not to be the focus for peoples' frustration.

Point 1, agree 100%, and I think most on here would have selected that team, it didnt click but at least it was tried.

Point 2, agree again, but unfortunately for us this is getting to be the norm at home.

Point 3, seems a little harsh even unfair on them because I`m sure they both try 100%, but if you havent got it then you havent got it.

Point 4, agree again (B****Y hell whats up !!! :D ), but saying that a win on Saturday with a couple of teams above us losing and we`re right back in the mix.

And finally although I forgot to highlight it I would give Heath a start as well depending on his genuine fitness levels.
