Talbot would be a natural for that, but for me, Smith is a natural defender who doesn't look particularly suited to the wing back role. I can't think of one decent cross he put in last season.

Carlisle, fourth goal.

Smith is naturally attacking.

Darikwa should be RB, if we give him game time there's a big sell on fee that'll be coming our way in the next few years.

I do worry how much faith we are putting in darikwa at right back, I hope he works out but he's only played a couple of games there, one a meaningless end of season job, and his debut in a local derby when you must be up for it. Hes only a kid with a long way to go yet

The lad's got potential. I think he's gonna be pretty good, I want him starting the season at RB.

seems to me that at the moment we have a bit of an unbalanced team, plenty of time to sort it out but would sheridan ever think of 3 at the back? italy played it in the euros and bog standard 442 seems to be out of fashion in the footballing world at present ,im just thinking that if smith and talbot were played slightly advanced up the pitch it might suit us,it would certainly suit drew who we know can get up and down all day and smith should also be able to do it,this would leave a kind of midfield triangle spearheaded by whittaker ahead of randall and togwell....just a thought but its a balanced side and allott slips nicely in for randall to solidify midfield.

.Smith..............................................................................................Talbot...........

Prefer Togwell to protect back three, win the ball in midfield and look for Randall and build from there.

what worries me is that he is a converted right back,he isnt a natural(people will say neither is talbot but talbot at least established himself in a position prior to dropping back) so i will say the jury is out on darikwa at the moment.

I'd agree with potential, starting? Maybe depending on how his pre season goes.
My major concern is he's a kid with potential so needs backing, we all know what it's like here, he's a couple of bad games away from folk slating him, getting booed, getting tagged tendire etc etc.
I'd love to see him start and play well, but we have be aware of what he currently is

Come on, Tendayi is not 16, he's 21 in October. In addition the crowd rarely get on the back of defenders, esp full backs. He looked more than good enough in the Notts County game & going into this season he has some players round him. No reason at all why he cant do well this year.

Err no! I'd have Togwell playing as a holding midfield player playing between the back three and the midfield breaking up play in the centre of the park but dropping back infront of the back three as defensive cover.Surely though you would only play a back three at home and revert to a 442 or 451 away from home.

December actually ;) but of course I agree, he's more than up for proving what he can do and I think he'll surprise a lot of people this season.

In footballing terms he's still a kid, 20 years old with hardly any league experience, so needs support and for everyone to be realistic.
And if things are going wrong defenders get it same as anyone else, smith ridehalgh hurst and Vidal over the last two seasons for a start

Out of interest, if we do result to this formation/first 11 who actually believes it's stronger than the team that went up a couple of years ago? In my opinion that team will be up there but no where near the quality of the team we saw 2010/2011. Worrying when you look at strength in depth, I still think we need to make a couple of signings if we want to get automatic.

what is the point in us giving Clay and Darikwa new contracts if they aren't going to be given a chance, both have shown promise and in a squad this small we need as many as possible to be ready for the first team. Both should get given a go at some point

Don't misunderstand me, I've no problem with giving him a go it is the only way we'll find out if he can do it.
My point is we need to be realistic about him, young lad with only a few hundred minutes of pro football behind him, we have to accept he is developing and needs patience and backing

togwell has been bought as a holding midfielder so that is where he will play but it will have to be alongside either randall or maybe allott if whittaker is played as a link midfielder.lets hope sheridan realises whittaker cannot play on the left,if he starts there sheridan is as thick as a pudding.
