Dear All,
The fourm now has a feature where you can vote to give a thread a rating out of 5 stars.
We've not been sure wether to enable it or not because although it may encorage people to write better and moer thoughtful posts, we don't want people to use it in personal disputes as a way of marking each other down.
So, I've unilaterally made the decision to give it a trial run in the "Fun & Games" section, as a sort of rate the joke facility.
When you reading a thread (in the F&G section) there should be a rating box in the top right of the page, click in there to choose a rating.
Mods and admins can re-rate the thread (or even remove the facility) if people are mis-using the system somehow.
Give it a whirl and let us know what you think, especially about it's expansion into other forums.
Denny

They had a similar thing on my university's message board but where you could give a positive or negative rating to individuals. You were allowed one judgement a day on each person and their overall rating was shown. It got a bit silly in the end to be honest, and I'm not just saying that cos I ended up with somewhere close to minus 15.

Yeah thats the worry, however this is marking the thread rather than the person, so if you mark down someones thread that you've replied to, then in effect you're marking you self down too!
inky, we can better it beat it by more than just 1 point surely!!

Heh, that had me quite popular in fact. Some people were messing around and got minus 100 or so. The only worry is that mine were probably merited and not in jest because I got them for arguing about politics...
Anyway, as you have it may be worth a try but I'm not sure it will stop people talking rubbish; it is a message board after all.
