Heard some stunning news for DCCC last night. I’ve heard we have only gone and signed Chanderpaul on a 2 year deal.

Well done Mr Skywalker. ;)

I dont think it was at all, remember we dont have the financial clout of most of the other teams, it appears now that we can actually compete on a level footing.

Be interesting to see if the chairman has put anything in to fund it...now he is worth a few quid as can be seen from the moneybags approach taken by Swarkestone in the local Premier League after he got involved!!

Chandrapaul has to be one of the most boring batsman i have ever witnessed but I can see many batting out for draws coming this season.

Currently has the 5th fastest test hundred in history so he is more than capable of playing expansively should he want to and has a decent ODI record as well.

He wasn't shy with the £80 bottles of Champagne when he first mentioned the deal. I suspect he's contributed.

He's certainly not one for the purists with his stupid stance and wandering about but if he lives up to his record then its definitely what we've required for a while. Be interesting to see where he goes in the batting line up as he doesnt like to bat that high for the Windies.

One of the reports i've read about Chanderpaul signing had a quote from Grant stating that they are talking to Guptill about him stopping on after the NZ tour here in the first part of the summer to play as our second T20 overseas.

**Edit**
It was a tweet from Grant that i saw mentioning Guptill :-

Christopher Grant ‏@Studento11
@derbyshireccc We will also continue to stay in touch with Martin Guptill about the possibility of staying on after the NZ tour to play T20

No football today, but I was looking forward to a morning watching the third ODI.

Ah well...

(Note to Ashley Giles: when batting, straightforward deliveries require straightforward shots. When bowling, hitting a consistent line and length is far more important than so called 'variations' - which seems to increasingly mean wides, in our case.)
Never underestimate the stupidity of people

Whilst batting was poor today, non spinning spin appears to be our downfall, the sooner we ditch Jade Dernbach the better...he's garbage!!

Also why are we persisting with Patel? His batting is awful, his fielding makes Monty look like Jonty Rhodes and if we are not going to use him as a bowler what is the point in picking him? Might as well put a proper spinner in there.

44 from 20 balls in the 2nd ODI says why. Sometimes he can be a class apart. Kieswetter is the biggest waste of space in my eyes.

I agree he is perfect for T20 bowling at the death but I think there is better in this country for ODI's

Prior should be playing all formats end of story whilst Patel appears to have the current Ravi Bopara spot in doing something useful just often enough to not get dropped.

Not sure if anyone's seen Cooks decision today but the sooner the ICC actually stand up to the Indian cricket board and make then use DRS the better. Cook been on the end of numerous shockers this winter and ones like today from home umpires will just raise ugly questions about home umpires cheating.

What's made it worse is they from a position of setting a good platform it's led to three wickets falling quickly.

I had just left for work but it must have been bad with my dad texting me to say it was a shocking decision. How are India getting away without using the DRS are the cricketing world frightened of them because of the success of the IPL ?? Again I see Morgan has done well and Patel has had 1 of his 8 in 10 waste of space performances

It was awful....basic cricket knowledge would tell you that an right arm off spinner around the wicket to a left hander isnt going to get an LBW when it turns like it did. The BCCI and DRS thing is now getting beyond the joke...not only are they able to stop it from being used at home but they refuse when travelling away as well and as the rules say both sides have to agree for it to be used then they have all the power. Any other game involving any other two nations uses it and its works...and proven to work. The standard throughout the whole winter over there has been poor with Cook on the end of 4 shockers from both local umpires in the ODIs to so called "elite panel" umpires in the test matches. If anything its all highlighted that DRS is needed to get rid of the shockers. There is no perfect way of using it and i personally think that the way it works at the moment with players asked to refer things is probably as good as its going to get. The only slight change i would make is that if a player refers and it goes against them on the basis of umpires call so it stays with the onfield decision the team shouldnt lose a referral. There is a margin of error with Hawkeye etc that is based on over half a ball i think it is so harsh to take a referral away when this is the reason.

As for Morgan and Patel both played poor shots but you could argue as well that the pressure was placed on them after the poor decision. Stupid however to promote Patel above Root as Roots later innings showed. I'd stick with Morgan as he is the one that can turn a game along with KP but Patel shouldnt be playing. His bowling isnt that great and if we're honest thats the reason he is picked to bat a bit and bowl a bit. Play a proper bat and Root can bowl a few if need be. That said neither of these should be dropped before Dernbach is...he is garbage!!
