Latest on twitter from DCCC :-

OUT! ten Doeschate is LBW to Wainwright for 29. Essex 113-5 as Wheater joins Foster, who is unbeaten on 21.

It is almost as though we're wathcing what is happening in Scarborough - every time they take one so do we.

We've got 6 down now - Yorkshire however have 7 down.

Told you Scarborough was a flat track!

We've got them 7 down now as well....Wheater LBW to Turner. 159-7.

Be nice to keep them under 200.

Revised weather forecast for Scarborough tomorrow - if anyone was planning a day trip, don't as it looks rather wet!

I hope our wagging tail can do it again?

So Strauss quits all professional cricket.

I am surprised by this as although I can understand his tenure as captain was under threat, I would think his place in the team should remain for another twelve months at least to assist Alistair Cook.

Or is this the start of a decline for this test side?

No play before lunch at Derby hardly surprising with the current weather conditions!

Sad to see Strauss go but listening to what he's said i think its a decision that backs up the way he has always gone about things...professional and a good one. He gave the impression that he was starting, for what of a better term, get a bit fed up with playing and struggling to work as hard as he needed to to keep his place and the time was right to go.

Where he has been unfortunate is i think after the way he and Flower have turned things round to go out on the back of losing top spot is sad and also the way he personally performed against them plus the whole KP affair. I think he probably made the decision to go a while ago but the timing of that KP stuff and the defeats makes it seem something it probably isnt.

What is good for us however compared to some other top sides is that we arent losing chunks of players in one go. The Aussies lost most of their awesome side in one go and have been struggling to get back to anything like it since, the indians are pretty much down to just Tendulkar of their awesome batting line up and i'm not sure he will be around much longer. We seem to lose one or two at the most meaning new lads coming in arent all dropped in together.

Usually new captains want a new team so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a new broom mentality.

After Hussain, Gough at al went soon after. Then after Baslow's finest, Harmison, Hoggard, Giles etc went.

Depends on what Flower and Cook want. Problem is with Cook is that you need a world class batsmen out of him and any distraction will degate from his effectiveness.

In my opinion..

Cant see Cook wanting a new team as he has seen what the majority of the side can do. He'd be nuts to ditch the likes of Broad, Swann and Anderson although he can ditch Bresnan for me!! With whats coming up in terms of India then the Aussies next summer and winter we havent got time to rebuild. It will be more or less the same side plus a replacement for Strauss (possibly Joe Root) and either KP or a KP replacement.

What's the weather forecast in the Derby area today. I see we've started and Durston is out. Typical that Masters should pick this as his comeback game.

Agree with all that.

I'd like to see Finn come in for Bresnan. I can't understand for the life of me how he doesn't get an extended run in the side.

Always seems to take wickets.

Bresnan has been a bit like Bopara in that they picked him partly because they did the other part of the game a bit as well. Bopara could bowl some overs as 5th bowler and Bresnan was capable of runs at 8. Personally i think you cant go picking folk for one part of the game just cos they can do the other as well. If a world class already turns up then so be it but until then we need to pick our best 6 bats and best 4 bowlers then Prior.

Again, I agree.

Bopara has always been a bit of a flop with the test side IMO, and has never really got the runs, or chipped in with a few wickets here and their, save for the odd un.

Bresnan, although performed well at times, and on occasion been the pick of our bowlers, doesn't really pose enough of a threat for me, for one of your frontline bowlers. Neither have the runs come really, although I remember a few good knocks, he's a bit here not there IMO.

Has to be Finn. Much more of a threat with the new and old ball, and I've seen worse batsmen in test cricket in the tail.

Edit-Any news on what's happening in Scarborough and Derby??

Phew, we have a batting point.

Excellent rearguard effort again.

I see the dark cloud over Yorkshire is quote literally following them around again.

Was just about to post that the tail was wagging again a bit. 80+ added for 8th wicket between Whiteley and Poynton.

Forecast is decent for tomorrow so a lead may be useful.

bottom....cursed them!!

73.5 Craddock to Whiteley, OUT
RA Whiteley b Craddock 56 (154m 125b 6x4 1x6) SR: 44.80

Good session nonetheless. 221/8 at Tea. Sounds a struggle today and Masters figures look excellent.

Picking up another batting point after tea would be excellent, as would Tom getting to 50 following his last knock.

All possible - then again all out for 222 is as likely after Masters cuppa.

Probably a better day for bowling than batting so no doubt its been a struggle especially starting the day 20 odd for 3.

Have to be honest and say Poyntons last couple of innings have surprised me. Very good keeper, stumped me once and i barely moved my back foot, but never thought he would be good enough to get runs at County level. Hopefully these last couple of knocks become his more consistent level and not a flash in the pan.

He should be delighted with today's knock.
