Of course I should have known that Yorkshire were "allowed" to play 12 players, still the ECB don't like it when one of their "star" counties are in Div 2. Took them long enough to get Surrey out though.

To be fair the rule has been around for a while now but still annoying when you're on the end of it. Onions was released and went back and recorded career best figures for Durham as well!!

It's fair enough in my opinion. Shouldn't be penalised for having non-selected England players.

But when we are already past day 1 ?? Not Derbyshire's fault that Bresnan wasn't selected by England. Yorkshire know the consequences, still you reap what you sow.

The ruling is that the player has to be able to feature for at least 2 full days hence he was ok to play. Same with Onions turning out for Durham at Notts. Mitchell Claydon started the game and batted on Day 1, Onions didnt make the test side so was released back to Notts, he got to Trent Bridge in time to turn out and take 9-67 plus a run out!!

If i'm honest i have no issues with it. Counties wont be keen to help develop England cricketers if the ones they do spend half the time sat about not playing cos they dont make a test side and have missed the start of a County game.

We could do with beating the follow-on target tomorrow. Rain would be welcome too.

Only the 4 teams playing in this round of games - Derbys and Hants will both be looking for breathing space.

I have this game down as the biggest opportunity in years for DCCC. IF we could win this one, that'll be some gap on the third place team with just three and some early Autumn weather remaining.

Weather forecast is OK for the week down here so I repeat IF...

Also what has happened to Chesney this season? WestBars - you are usually in the know?

Agree its a massive game and winning it would nearly see us there. Even start so far with Northants scoring quite quickly but us taking 3 wickets.

Played in the T20 and CB40 games but not really had a look in for the Championship games with the top 6 pretty much settled bar Borrington making way for Linekar part way through the season. Chesney has been spending a number of his Saturdays turning out for Sandiacre Town in the Derbyshire Premier League.

Now then Jon.

On another subject, I am in an NFL fantasy league this season alongside a group of Atlanta Falcons supporters. You have to pick your players on a draft basis - looks really complicated.

How do you rate Derbyshires chances then? Going to be a close call between us Hampshire and Yorkshire for the title. Still with Hampshire left to play.

Not being helped by Northants deciding to turn it on and get 400 today, puts us in an awkward position chasing a big target. At least Hampshire are struggling at Leicester!

Been a long going cricket thread in the personal section talking Derbyshire which i suggested should be moved to this board when it was created. Personally i think its going to go to the wire. We're 2 down early which is a pain plus after today we have three games left which are Essex at home then Kent away and Hampshire at home to finish so the fixtures are set up for an exciting finish!!

We'll sneak it. Worryingly we don't seem capable of batting sides out of games and are over reliant on Palladino & Groenewold. That said we should be ok with draws from here.

Ask them if they remember Mick Luckhurst.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

On a Different Derbyshire CCC topic, vote here for Dan Redfern to be LV CC County Championship breakthrough player.

I remember him as he was the British link to NFL when it was C4 on a Sunday tea time.

According to wikipedia he lives in Santa Barbara the lucky devil.
