It was always six and out in our garden. We went through literally thousands of tennis balls as kids. As we played down the side of the house it probably explains why me and my brother and good can hit straight but struggle otherwise! Leg side shots were pretty much pointless as they hit the house if the bat didn't first.

Brother in law played in a similar way at home with his dad and you can tell by the way he batted in some midweek games he played in for the side i ran. Was pretty decent driving the ball.

In terms of neighbours when i was a kid we got very good at vaulting the fence to fetch tennis balls or footballs when they cleared a fence....being out or not often came down to how difficult the ball was to retrieve!!

Fixtures for our Saturday and Sunday leagues are now out.

No fun for our groundsman as we are at home for the first 5 games of the season! Maybe even more when midweek fixtures come out.

We've had ours since October i think it is as usual....means plenty of time to book a holiday around the games you dont fancy! ;)

Only main issue with ours is that they've ditched the double weekend to finish and extended the season to have less double weekends which actually means we as a club have more double weekends that we've had in previous seasons! We shared on side of the ground with a football pitch so there are agreed dates they get priority over us. First weekend as usual we cant have a home game so the 2nds have to push that to a Sunday later in the season whilst at the back end of the season there are a few weeks affected where both 1sts and 2nds have to play on Sundays earlier in the season instead.

Do you play County League?

Was talking to a couple of lads who didn't think your fixtures were out yet. They aren't on play cricket are they?

Yep. Initial ones are always out by October but they don't go on play cricket til nearer the season once rearrangements have been confirmed or any drop outs etc.

This is a link to the full fixtures...just need to pick theirs out!!

Also already had a full Twitter updates as it happened from the agm & rules meeting plus some early transfers going through on the league Twitter account as well.

It's ridiculously cheap by our standards to get in at this match in South Africa.

I've just had a look at buying a decent seat for tomorrow and it is the equivalent of £3.38. The most expensive is £6.34. Bizarrely the park and ride bus costs more than getting in!

£67.19 for the hospitality package with all your food and drink all day.

And still they only get 8000 today with a fair chunk of travelling English support....

With SA wickets falling today at least Bob Taylors record dismissals for England in one match is still intact

It would have been criminal if stopper Baistow ( I refrain from calling him a wicketkeeper)had equalled or even beaten the record of 10 dismissals although he did come close with 9

"Chat" was shafted by the Kent loving selectors, after joining the Packer set Knott should never have played for England again.
East stand second class citizen.

I can't see what England have to gain by not playing Footitt in this match. They shouldn't have bothered taking him.

Yep....if they are going to pick him for the series and then drag him round Sth Africa all winter then they should really have picked him for this game to get a look at him and see whether he is up to it. We know what the likes of Woakes, Jordan and Plunkett offer and at 2-0 up there is nothing really to lose especially with Sth Africa in tatters. If he cant get a game in this situation and being a Surrey player then he never will. There is also the fact that picking Woakes always smacks of picking a bowler cos he can bat...his bowling, whilst apparently quicker than he was, just never seems very threatening. Its not like we need his batting when we already have Ali at 8 and Broad at 9!

On the up side i suppose...another belting catch by Taylor at short leg!

Nothing has happened so far to make me think I'm wrong. Not a lot of threat from what I've seen.

Terrible news for James Taylor.....

Nottinghamshire & England batsman James Taylor’s career has been sadly brought to an end by a serious heart condition.

Taylor originally withdrew from last week’s fixture against Cambridge MCCU with what was believed to be a viral condition.

However, specialist scans revealed yesterday that the 26-year-old has the very serious heart condition, ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Arrhythmia).

Taylor’s diagnosis is similar to that of former footballer Fabrice Muamba following his collapse on the field in 2012. He requires an operation, which will take place in the coming days.

“Myself and all of James’ teammates & colleagues are terribly sad to hear this news, which comes as a big shock to us all,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He is a model professional, the most hard working I’ve ever known in cricket, making it all the more difficult to accept that his career has been cut short in this way.

“It goes without saying that he has the very best wishes of us all in terms of recovering from his operation, and that we are looking forward to seeing him back at Trent Bridge when he is fit and able.”

England Team Director Andrew Strauss added: "It is both shocking and saddening to hear that James' career has been cut short in such a sudden and unexpected manner.

“Throughout his career, he has constantly impressed with his determination to make the absolute most of his ability, and it is immensely cruel that such a hard working player will be unable to fulfil his great potential in the international arena.

“The ECB will work closely with Nottinghamshire and together we will do everything possible to help James through this difficult period, and aid him in his recovery."

We ask that the privacy of James is respected as he comes to terms with the situation and focuses on his recovery.

Awful news!

At least it was spotted before it hit him like it did for Muamba!

Can't imagine being told at 26 that you can't play ever again. Especially when you are in such good shape...

He always seemed to be a pain in the proverbial when playing against Derbyshire for both Leics and Notts but such sad news to hear

How did folk's cricket go yesterday? I didn't get up there (primarily as it is far too cold at the best of times) but our firsts managed a genuine tie at Eckington. Sounds like a fair result all round. Both could and should have won the game at different times.

Our 2s scored more than Clowne 3s would have got in two innings but couldn't bowl them out - from what I saw a combination of poor catching, missed run outs and 'generous' (being kind) decisions being made against their fellow players when batting.

I lasted just over an hour in the cold before retiring to the Peacock.

Sounds like our game went the same way has your 2nds without the dropped catches bit. The opposition won the toss and elected to umpire 2nd after 15 overs they were 7(seven)for3 it went downhill from there.
My contribution was navigating the 30ish yards from 1st slip to 1st slip every 6 balls (well 7 balls 3 times in the 1st 10 overs) with aplomb and paying my subs without a whimper. Hopefully my last game of the season with younger players returning
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.
