That could explain the amount of byes Kieswetter is letting through.

A couple of batting points would come in very handy considering how tight it could be at the bottom come the last game. I would imagine they have 250 in their mind's eye as this would put us ahead of Somerset on points assuming they bowl us out and we end up winning the game.

18 byes off 50 overs - is he up for the quickies??

Do you think Madsen might gamble a bit and consider declaring when 8 down to stop Somerset getting another bowling point?

Possibly depends on the score and lead at the time but i would have thought winning was more important.

Derbyshire CCC ‏@DerbyshireCCC 1m
CLOSE! A superb opening day for the visitors at Taunton! Derbyshire 220-5 (Poynton 53* and Johnson 55*), leading Somerset by 117 runs

Decent day all in all after a good rebuilding of the innings by these two. Get the lead to 200 and hopefully we are well set.

Cracking day.

Skittling out a team for 100 and already 100+ in the lead. Notts and Surrey also with a bit of work to do. Seems that blooding the academy players looks promising for the future regardless of what happens this year.

Its something i've mentioned a few times that even if we got relegated the likes of Slater, Burgoyne, Hughes, Higginbotham and some i've probably missed will have got good experience under there belt. Whats made it a little better is the fact that they've also played a part in giving us a chance of staying up.

Tremendous day and a position from which, this time tomorrow, we should be in sight of winning the game from. You've got to assume Somerset bat better but I can see us slogging a few tomorrow to get a lead of 200+. They'll be behind at the close with at least half the side out.

According to the Cricinfo report on the day the ECB pitch inspectors are already at the ground. Huge turn and bounce for the spinners by tea on day one. When you have Piyush Chawla in your side then of course you'd prepare a pitch to suit your strengths, but it helps if you can put a competitive total on the board first up.

Supposed to be the flattest track around. I recall 4 Derbyshire players getting tons in one innings there about 10 years ago and Barnett scored a whopper there about 15 years ago.

Interesting if they get deducted points.

We've scored 700+ and 800+ there in recent years i seem to remember. Always had a reputation as the flattest track in the country but it definitely seems that this one isnt like that. We got done the other week for the one day game v Durham so will be interesting to see if this one goes the same way. 15 wickets on the first day and Chawla getting massive turn.

298 all out, lead of 195 but annoyingly a couple short of another batting point. Surrey recovering after losing an early wicket. Amla in and will probably rescue them again!!

Looking at the scorecard for the 801/8 did you notice we were 0-2!
